You are the Light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl, Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house
In this great, big world of ours, we sometimes feel insignificant to make a difference in another's life, especially the lives of strangers. Matthew is telling us all that each of us has a light inside of us that is Jesus! If we all hide ourselves from the outside world, whom do we change, who feels our love and desire for them to secure their Salvation. If you are truly a Christian, it is your duty to God to work to change souls. If every Christian sent out their light to just one stranger per day, why, the entire world would shine from the Light of Jesus within us all!
No, a city cannot be hidden, and if you put your Faith into practice by being an example (Light) to all whom you meet each day, you are bound to make a difference in at least one person's life. If your light shines bright enough, like the city, it cannot be hidden. It is your breastplate, and it is there for all to see. People move toward the light. They are curious what it's all about. Open your heart, release the love and compassion so that none ever be afraid to come near you. And when they are near you, it is up to you to put that great big smile on your face bringing warmth and invitation, and to tell them the wonderful story of Jesus.
From experience, I do say that the longer and more often that you shine your light, the more comfortable you become. You will find that you cannot wait to tell someone the Good News!
Love thy neighbor as thyself. Turn away from all things negative and go near the light that YOU see. Open your heart to the invitation and listen ....... what you learn is the only truth in this world that you can count upon. And that Truth is in Jesus and our Father God! Friends will forsake you, employers will forsake you, even family members will forsake you. BUT, the words quoted in The Bible are TRUTH:
"He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."—Hebrews 13:5.
Do not be afraid. Just speak from the heart; write from the heart; pray from the heart. It is so easy that it confuses me why so many live in the dark and are afraid to listen to the Truth and the Light! Do not despair, nor ever give up.
Just imagine seeing Jesus when you get to Heaven and Him telling you, "Job well done!" I don't know about you, but I am so looking forward to that moment in Heaven! Praise God!
Lovingly in Jesus Christ,
