STS. MICHAEL, GABRIEL AND RAPHAEL

My excuse: I'm a convert so allow me to apologize for the oversight in not mentions Sts. Gabriel and Raphael yesterday.  Here is a proper write-up of all three angels from American Catholic.org.

Sts. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael

Angels—messengers from God—appear frequently in Scripture, but only Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are named.
Michael appears in Daniel's vision as "the great prince" who defends Israel against its enemies; in the Book of Revelation, he leads God's armies to final victory over the forces of evil. Devotion to Michael is the oldest angelic devotion, rising in the East in the fourth century. The Church in the West began to observe a feast honoring Michael and the angels in the fifth century.

Gabriel also makes an appearance in Daniel's visions, announcing Michael's role in God's plan. His best-known appearance is an encounter with a young Jewish girl named Mary, who consents to bear the Messiah.

Raphael's activity is confined to the Old Testament story of Tobit. There he appears to guide Tobit's son Tobiah through a series of fantastic adventures which lead to a threefold happy ending: Tobiah's marriage to Sarah, the healing of Tobit's blindness and the restoration of the family fortune.

The memorials of Gabriel (March 24) and Raphael (October 24) were added to the Roman calendar in 1921. The 1970 revision of the calendar joined their feasts to Michael's.

Comment:

Each of these archangels performs a different mission in Scripture: Michael protects; Gabriel announces; Raphael guides. Earlier belief that inexplicable events were due to the actions of spiritual beings has given way to a scientific world-view and a different sense of cause and effect. Yet believers still experience God's protection, communication and guidance in ways which defy description. We cannot dismiss angels too lightly.
Quote:

"For the honor we pay the angelic creatures in whom you delight redounds to your own surpassing glory, and by their great dignity and splendor you show how infinitely great you are, to be exalted above all things, through Christ our Lord" (Roman Missal, Preface for this feast).

ST. THERESE NOVENA - DAY 9

Peace be with you!

Today is the last day of the St. Therese novena!  We hope this has been a great blessing for you!

Today, let's pray for selflessness. St. Therese gave of herself to her Carmelite sisters in love.

Let's pray that God will give us the grace to unconditionally love our friends, family and even our enemies. Let us ask through St. Therese's intercession that we may love those who we find most difficult to love!

Additionally, let's pray for all those who are working selflessly to provide for their families, as well as those looking for work.
Here are the prayers for today:
Day 9 - St. Therese Novena
Dearest Saint Therese of Lisieux, you said that you would spend your time in heaven doing good on earth.
Your trust in God was complete. Pray that He may increase my trust in His goodness and mercy as I ask for the following petitions…
(State your intentions)
Pray for me that I, like you, may have great and innocent confidence in the loving promises of our God. Pray that I may live my life in union with God’s plan for me, and one day see the Face of God whom you loved so deeply.
Saint Therese, you were faithful to God up until the moment of your death. Pray for me that I may be faithful to our loving God. May my life bring peace and love to the world through faithful endurance in love for God our savior.
Loving God, St. Therese never doubted that her life had meaning. Help me to see how I can bless and love everyone in my life. Especially…
I love your people, Lord. Help me to love them more!
I reflect you to the world, Lord. Help me to reflect you more clearly!
I rely on you, Lord. Help me to rely on you more!
I accept your will, Lord. Help me to accept your will every day!
I try to forgive, Lord. Help me to forgive 70 times 7 times!
I am humble, Lord. Give me more humility!
I see you, Lord. Help me to see you more!
I trust you, Lord. Help me to trust you more!
I love you, Lord. Help me to love you more!
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.

FEAST OF ST. MICHAEL, THE ARCHANGEL

PRAYER TO
SAINT MICHAEL
THE ARCHANGEL

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen..

O glorious prince St. Michael,
chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls,
vanquisher of rebel spirit,
servant in the house of the Divine King and our admirable conductor,
 you who shine with excellence
and superhuman virtue deliver us from all evil, who turn to you with confidence
and enable us by your gracious protection
to serve God more and more faithfully every day.

I SAW GOD TODAY

Something of a miracle must have been blessed upon me overnight, for I saw the world quite differently this morning.

I saw God when I awoke and looked in the mirror at the reflection of this woman that he created and nurtures with His blessings and His Word daily.

I saw God as I was driving on the road, the Middle School on the left and the High School on the right. Children and young adult were arriving at their schools, dropped off by parents or buses, making their way inside to a place of learning.

I saw God when I picked up my granddaughter, Hannah, and gazed at this almost 16 year old young woman, as beautiful as the driven snow, as she opened the front door and bounced down to my vehicle.

I saw God as Hannah, and I conversed casually and easily as I took her for a physical so she could play in the Powder Puff kickball game tomorrow night as part of Homecoming week.

I saw God at the physician's office where a large room was situated to the left of the waiting area. It was full of people going through rehabilitation for an injury and/or following a surgical procedure which required the help of trained individuals to get these people back on their feet again and healed (by the Grace of God).

I saw God in my legacy, Hannah, my second generation, one of whom I am very pleased and I know that He is very pleased also.

I saw God in all the vehicles going in different directions, to work, to school, running early errands, etc. I sometimes look upon the many vehicles and ask myself "where is everyone going?"

I saw God as I expressed to Hannah how very much she means to me, being my only granddaughter, and how very much I love her.

I saw God when she said, "I love you, too!"

I saw God as I went out onto my deck with my coffee and read a Chapter of "The Praying Wife."

I saw God when he begged me it was time to talk with him, and thus I did.

I saw God with my eyes closed and the dim was suddenly bright and I knew He was with me.

I saw God in all my prayers and in all His answers, keeping faithful in the Truth and the Light.

I saw God when, in the midst of my conversation with him, there was suddenly a heavy aroma of lilies and honeysuckle (none around here). I immediately smiled and thanked my dear St. Therese of Liseux. This miracle served to completely enhance my time with Him.

I saw God when I was finished praying and I opened my eyes.  I looked around at the foliage, a single leaf on the maple tree blowing int he breeze.

I saw God when the squirrels began chasing one another around and around and up a tall pine tree.

I saw God when a single, yellow butterfly flew by and I watched until it was gone.

I saw God in an unexpected "comment" to my blog from a long-time pen-pal and fellow Christian. My heart was elated.

I saw God in the special email that I received from my best friend in England, a friend who is always encouraging me in my faith and love.

I saw God in a multitude of ways and earthly things that He created.  My question is this: Do you go about your day, routine or not, and have thoughts of seeing God in everything around you?  I ask you just give it a whirl and you'll be as filled with His Amazing Grace as I am.

About the painting, no, we have not actually seen the face of God and will not until we are received into His Kingdom, but man was created in the image of God, so I found this a fair representation of our Father, God.

So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them.

ST. THERESA NOVENA - DAY 8

Peace be with you!
Today, let's pray for an emptying out of ourselves so that we can be Christ to others. Let's pray for the realization that our lives may be the only Gospel that some people ever read.

With that in mind let us continue on with our daily activities and responsibilities as St. Therese would. Doing small things with great love for the Glory of God!
Here are the prayers for today:

KEEPING THE SABBATH

Sunday. The Sabbath. The day set aside and designated "Holy" by our Father, God.  Also, as a day of rest.  And in our rest, we attend our special religious services in thanksgiving to our God and in praise of Him. We perhaps spend special time with family over a meal (at grandma's - remember those days!!) after services or later in the day.  In summer, perhaps a covered dish picnic somewhere where all the children can play.

Father, God, had to be very, very tired, but I can picture him looking at what He hath created over the previous six days and being so happy, overjoyed even, and thoughts of hope that would be shattered quite early.

sab·bath
ˈsabəTH/
noun
  1. 1.
a day of religious observance and abstinence from work, kept by Jews from Friday evening to Saturday evening, and by most Christians on Sunday.

"For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, . . .
and rested on the seventh day:
therefore the Lord blessed the
seventh day, and sanctified it"

Roman Catholic and some Eastern Orthodox faiths. kept the Sabbath in commemoration of the resurrection of Christ, and it is often celebrated with the Eucharist (every Sabbath for Roman Catholics). For many it is the day of rest, and of communal worship in remembrance of the day of the Resurrected Jesus Christ.  .Remembrance and observation of the Sabbath is also a part of the Ten Commandments.
The Sabbath was the consecration of one day of the weekly period to God as the Author of the universe and of time. The day thus being the Lord's, it required that man should abstain from working for his own ends and interests, since by working he would appropriate the day to himself, and that he should devoted his activity to God by special acts of positive worship. After the Sinaitic covenant God stood to Israel in the relation of Lord of that covenant. The Sabbath thereby also became a sign, and its observance an acknowledgment of the pact: "See that thou keep my sabbath; because it is a sign between me and you in your generations; that you may know that I am the Lord, who sanctify you" (Exodus 31:13).
But while the Sabbath was primarily a religious day, it had a social and philanthropic side. It was also intended as a day of rest and relaxation, particularly for the slaves (Deuteronomy 5:14). Because of the double character, religious and philanthropic, of the day, two different reasons are given for its observance. The first is taken from God's rest on the seventh day of creation: "For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, . . .and rested on the seventh day: therefore the Lord blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it" (Exodus 20:11;31:17). This does not mean that the Sabbath was instituted at the Creation, as me commentators have thought, but that the Israelites were to imitate God's example and rest on the day which He had sanctified by His rest. The Sabbath as the sign of the Sinaitic covenant recalled the deliverance from the bondage of Egypt. Hence, in the second place, the Israelites are bidden to remember that they were once slaves in Egypt, and should therefore in grateful remembrance of their deliverance rest themselves and allow their bond-servants to rest (Deuteronomy 5:14-15). As a reminder of God's benefits to Israel the Sabbath was to be a day of joy (Isaiah 58:13) and such it was in practice (cf. Hosea 2:11Lamentations 2:6). No fasting was done on the Sabbath (Judith 8:6) on the contrary, the choicest meals were served to which friends were invited.(1)

So you see, the observation of the Seventh Day has withstood the test of time, and has become the most important day of the week.  There are many faiths and many ways in which the Sabbath is honored.  I am proudly a member of The Holy Roman Catholic Church, and I am a convert, which "they" often say "are the worst".  And by that, it is meant that we converts are so filled and overwhelmed by all that is to be learned and practiced in our Faith, that perhaps our earnestness takes on an aback. When I began coming to The Church, I knew "this is where I belong!" And I've never looked back!

I am still and will always be growing in the love of God and Jesus Christ.  Every day of my life is filled with happiness, joy, trust, faith and freedom. My focus is on family and now giving back by joining a ministry within my Parish.

Not to forget that there are people who are losing their lives because they will not renounce their Christianity. Please remember them in your prayers daily, and pray that this all ends soon. If you don't know how very fortunate you are, just think about what is happening in the Middle East; people trying to flee before being killed, the beheading of many innocent CHILDREN, ad the three that have been filmed and publicized by this group that could only come from the seed of Satan.  You are blessed that you can worship openly! Pray that this type thing never reaches the borders of our blessed country.

I have to tell you, I have great sadness thinking "what might be going on over there at this moment?"  I pray to our Father, God, but it is HIS WILL that will allow this to go so far before his plans of intercession are begun.  I have confidence that this group will be eliminated, but then, another is already in the planning.  I see great fulfillment of the scriptures in what is taking place.

So on this and every Sabbath, keep the Commandments of our Father, God; worship and praise him; give thanks; spend time with the most important people of your life, your family, and cherish every moment, for life flies like the eagle and soon children will be grown with children of their own, It is the circle of life.

I am prepared.  Are you?

Lovingly in Christ,
Abbey

ST. THERESE NOVENA - DAY 7

Peace be with you.

Today, let's pray for a greater dependence on God. Our culture is constantly pushing us to rely on ourselves, to be totally self-sufficient.
But, we are not, we belong to God -- we must rely on Him for everything just like St. Therese.
St. Therese, pray for us!
Here are the prayers for today:

Loving God, St. Therese offered to You her weakness. Help me to see in my weakness an opportunity to rely completely on you.
I rely on you, Lord. Help me to rely on you more!
I accept your will, Lord. Help me to accept your will every day!

ST. THERESE NOVENA - DAY 6

Peace be with you!

Despite great suffering during her life, St. Therese still trusted deeply in God. Today, let's pray to have the same trust and strength when we suffer through hard times.

The suffering can come in many forms, but none of us are immune to it. Jesus carried His cross and asked us to take up ours and follow Him.
Since that is what He asks, He will give us the grace and strength to endure the suffering of this life as long as we continue to trust and hope in Him.
St. Therese, pray for us!

Let's particularly pray for those suffering with anxiety or depression.
Here are the prayers for today:

"LONG WAY THERE"

I heard this song on the radio earlier today and it always makes me THINK!  I cannot say for sure what the lyrics truly meant to The Little River Band, but I have my own take on things. ("blue" is Abbey)

~*~
LONG WAY THERE
Little River Band (see YouTube)

Hey everybody, yeah
Don't you feel that there's something?

As you go around from day to day, living your life, living a huge routine, do you ever think "there has to be more to life than this".  And you decide, I believe there is and I'm going to find out what, exactly, it is that I am missing.

People on their own are getting nowhere
I am on the road to see
If anything is anywhere and waiting, just for me

Every night I walk around the city
Seems like I'll never know
That feeling of being together when I go

And it's a long way there
It's a long way to where I'm going

And it's a long way there
It's a long way to where I'm going

Hey everybody
Don't you feel that there's something
But you know in a moment it is gone?

I live for the day when I can hear people saying
That they know and they care for everyone
But I feel like I've been here for the whole of my life
Never knowing home

It's a long way
It's a long, long, long way there

I'm gonna keep on tryin'
I'm gonna keep on tryin', yeah
I'm gonna keep on tryin'
I'm gonna keep on tryin', ahh

And it's a long way there
It's a long way to where I'm going

Hey everybody, yeah
Don't you feel that there's something?
Feel it, feel it, hey everybody, yeah
Don't you feel that there's something?

~*~
There are literally millions of lost souls roaming this earth, looking for something, but they know not what. Many of them are terribly discouraged and lonely. They need guidance, something, anything to give them hope.  Most do not have the will and determination that it take to find "it" and the strength to stumble and fall, and get up again and say "mistake, but I'm going to keep on trying."

HOME is GOD, and yes, it is a long way there, or so it seems.  But our lives are only a twinkle in the eye of God.

I recall when I was in my 20's, I never thought about my mortality, much less my salvation.  I thought Mother and Daddy would be here forever.  I took my nice physique and beautiful hair, AND my YOUTH for granted.  Somehow, I think most people do.

But as age has crept up behind me, I became so very aware of my mortality, and of the long road that I had traveled already, moreover, the time I'd wasted in a number of ways - and, wasn't it just yesterday that I bore my daughter, and then my son, and now they have children of their own?  Where did the time go? Ah, a twinkle of an eye and here I am.

I began searching for "something", I didn't know how it would feel, but I searched and searched, but I didn't have the tenacity and soon I would lose sight of my goal.  It ebbed and waned for years. Too many years.

I visited several different churches of different faiths and I never felt as if I was HOME. Until ..... I married a Roman Catholic. Being raised Pentecostal, I thought there was something sinister here, but being as bold as I've always been, I kept on trying and I started attending Mass every week to see what all the hub-bub was about.

What I noted at first was the extreme reverence of the Mass.  I felt it's holiness tug at my insides. My husband gave me a Missal and pointed occasionally to show me where they were. I loved genuflection, the sign of the cross (that alone made me feel I was special because I was honoring Him) - such an expression of true, deep reverence to the Body of Christ present. Ah, but I was a long way from understanding what the Mass was all about.

I don't have to go into all the particulars, but once I learned what everything meant, and I'm still learning, I loved that the Mass was comprised of lots of prayer, both sung and spoken.  I especially love the blessing of the Eucharist and I pray and prepare myself to accept the true Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus.

I might mention (maybe I have before), that when I enter the pew and get on my knees to pray, I look up at the huge crucifix and tears well in my eyes as I tell God, "I am so happy to be home, in Your House."  I also cry at "The Litany of Saints" and a lot of other things. I'm very emotional about these important liturgical things that are said and done throughout the Church Calendar. But, THIS, THIS is THE most important thing - my relationship with our Lord Jesus and Father God, and I enjoy a very special relationship with "Mama" as well.  I love her dearly.

So, do you feel it? That there is something more? Trust me, there IS and it is the most wonderful thing in all the world. You gotta keep on trying, keep on trying and keep on trying.  Never stop trying, for it is with your efforts that God takes you under His wing and things begin to make sense.  You find a place of SAFETY, SECURITY, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, AND a PROMISE that you can live your life counting on.

39 The promise is for you and your children
and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call."
Acts 2:39

The Bible is FULL of promise, for everyone, anyone who turns away from the things of this world and lives God's will for them. Sometimes, His will is difficult, but He has a reason for everything, and down the road, something good will come of it and it will all make sense! HENCE, INCREASING YOUR FAITH, DAY BY DAY!

Lovingly in Christ,
Abbey

Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.

Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.

ST. THERESE NOVENA - DAY 4

Peace be with you!

Today, let's pray for more women to answer God's call to the religious life.
Here are the prayers for today:
Day 4 - St.
Loving God, You taught St. Therese how to find You through the “little way” of humility and simplicity. Grant that I may never miss the grace hidden in humble service to others.
