NOVENA TO ST. THERESE - DAY 9

Peace be with you!

Today is the last day of the St. Therese novena!

I hope this has been a great blessing for you!

Today, let's pray for selflessness. St. Therese gave of herself to her Carmelite sisters in love.

Let's pray that God will give us the grace to unconditionally love our friends, family and even our enemies. Let us ask St. Therese's intercession that we may love those who we find most difficult to love!

Here are the prayers for today:

Day 9 - Novena to St. Therese

Dearest Saint Therese of Lisieux, you said that you would spend your time in heaven doing good on earth.

Your trust in God was complete. Pray that He may increase my trust in His goodness and mercy as I ask for the following petitions...

(State your intentions)

Pray for me that I, like you, may have great and innocent confidence in the loving promises of our God. Pray that I may live my life in union with God's plan for me, and one day see the Face of God whom you loved so deeply.

Saint Therese, you were faithful to God up until the moment of your death. Pray for me that I may be faithful to our loving God. May my life bring peace and love to the world through faithful endurance in love for God our savior.

Loving God, St. Therese never doubted that her life had meaning. Help me to see how I can bless and love everyone in my life. Especially...

I love your people, Lord. Help me to love them more!
I reflect you to the world, Lord. Help me to reflect you more clearly!
I rely on you, Lord. Help me to rely on you more!
I accept your will, Lord. Help me to accept your will every day!
I try to forgive, Lord. Help me to forgive 70 times 7 times!
I am humble, Lord. Give me more humility!

I trust you, Lord. Help me to trust you more!
I love you, Lord. Help me to love you more!

THIS DAY'S THOUGHT, VERSE AND SMILE

This Day's Thought from The Ranch
A wise man once said, “Whatever came to me, I looked on as God’s gift for some special purpose.  If it was a difficulty, I knew He gave it to me to struggle with, to strengthen my mind and my faith.”  That idea has sweetened and helped me all of my life.

This Day's Verse
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

NOVENA TO ST. THERESE - DAY 8

Peace be with you!

Today, let's pray for an emptying out of ourselves so that we can be Christ to others. Let's pray for the realization that our lives may be the only Gospel that some people ever read.

With that in mind let us continue on with our daily activities and responsibilities as St. Therese would. Doing small things with great love for the Glory of God!

NOVENA TO ST. THERESE - DAY 7

Peace be with you!
Today, let's pray for a greater dependence on God. Our culture is constantly pushing us to rely on ourselves, to be totally self-sufficient.
But, we are not, we belong to God -- we must rely on Him for everything just like St. Therese.
St. Therese, pray for us!
Here are the prayers for today:
Day 7 - Novena to St. Therese

NOVENA TO ST. THERESE - DAY 6

Peace be with you!

Despite great suffering at the end of her life, St. Therese still trusted deeply in God. Today, let's pray to have the same trust and strength when we suffer through hard times.

The suffering can come in many forms, but none of us are immune to it. Jesus carried His cross and asked us to take up ours and follow Him.

Since that is what He asks, He will give us the grace and strength to endure the suffering of this life as long as we continue to trust and hope in Him.

St. Therese, pray for us!

NOVENA TO ST. THERESE - DAY 4

Peace be with you!

As we continue to pray for more women to answer God's call to the religious life, I'd like to pray for something else as well.

Today let's pray for all those looking for work. Let's pray for everyone who is under paid and those who are unable to work. Let's pray for just and lasting employment for those who need it most.

And, of course, for your intentions!

Here are the prayers for today:

THIS DAY'S THOUGHT, VERSE & SMILE :)

This Day's Thought from The Ranch
God Almighty would in no way permit evil in His works were He not so omnipotent and good that even out of evil He could work good.
Augustine

This Day's Verse
Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”  So He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.”

GOD'S LOVE FOR ME

YOU ARE GOING TO BURN

You are going to BURN for all eternity!

Set Our Hearts on Fire!
Here is something you should consider about your life…
You are going to BURN for all eternity!

The question is, how do you want to burn?

Set Our Hearts on Fire!
I choose to burn for all eternity like a star on fire with the love of God but you can choose to burn the other way, but it will hurt and is quite painful. The thing is, when the fire of God starts to die in your heart in this life, you start to become like a burning ember that starts to cool and eventually dies out into darkness.

This is when the other fire starts to burn… the fire of anger and resentment, the fire of revenge and unforgiveness. And if the fire of God that He lit within you in your Baptism dies out, the other fire starts to grow and it will burn for all eternity if it is not snuffed out before you die! Again, you will burn, but how do you want to burn? Start burning out of love for God and you will then need not worry about the other fire.

A MESSAGE FROM PRIESTS FOR LIFE

This was sent to the individual at our parish who oversees the Prayer Warriors.

I just had a wonderful trip to Rome where I was again with Pope Francis. While there, I was asked to comment on the controversy caused by his recent interview, in which he shared some thoughts about the Church’s focus on abortion. I wrote several articles explaining why we do not need to be alarmed, and am awaiting some major papers to publish them. Meanwhile, below is another version of my commentary. Enjoy and pass along!

Thanks

Fr. Frank

As the Director of Priests for Life, known worldwide as a ministry within the Catholic Church that urges more preaching, teaching, and action against abortion, I was asked by many alarmed and confused people these past few days about the reported comments of the Pope that the Church should not be "obsessed" with this issue, and that there should be "balance" and "context.

Is the pope saying we should talk less about abortion? Is he saying that the emphasis the Church has placed on this issue has been a mistaken emphasis?

When I first received these inquiries via emails and text messages, I was actually in the presence of Pope Francis, in the dining room of his residence. I had spoken just hours earlier, at the invitation of the Vatican, about the Church's defense of the unborn child, and about the clear and strong position of the Church, expressed in many documents, that the right to life is our first right and the foundation and condition for all the others.

So the news came to me with more than a little irony, and I immediately began to tell worried pro-life warriors that they had no reason to think that the Pope no longer wanted the Church to focus on abortion.

Pope Francis preaches on pro-life in a very integral way. He gives strong and clear messages that derive from the very substance of the Faith and a very broad vision of the demands that Faith places upon us. The conclusions and applications for the pro-life movement are undeniable, even if he does not use the specific words “pro-life movement” and “unborn.”

This was very clear in his homily at his installation on March 19, when he spoke of the need to protect every person, especially children, from the “Herods” of our day who plot death.

And it was clear again in his Palm Sunday homily, which contained the very strong message to have confidence in the victory of life over death.

He said it this way:

“Let us look around: how many wounds are inflicted upon humanity by evil! Wars, violence, economic conflicts that hit the weakest, greed for money, power, corruption, divisions, crimes against human life and against creation!

"Jesus on the Cross feels the whole weight of the evil, and with the force of God’s love he conquers it, he defeats it with his resurrection.

"Dear friends, we can all conquer the evil that is in us and in the world: with Christ, with the force of good!"

He mentions “crimes against human life,” using the same word the Second Vatican Council used in Gaudium et Spes to describe abortion (an “unspeakable crime”). He urges us to see evil for what it is, and then never to lose confidence in the victory we have over evil, thanks to the death and Resurrection of Christ.

In his recent interview, he made it clear that the Church should put opposition to abortion "in context." This is neither new nor unwelcome. The Pope wants to see the renunciation of abortion put in the context of mercy toward the mother, and this is consistent with the pro-life movement's emphasis on "loving them both." In fact, in my personal conversations with the Pope, he particularly urged me to go forward with the work of Rachel's Vineyard, the largest ministry in the world for healing after abortion. He called it an "excellent work."

The Pope wants the teaching against abortion not to stand alone, as if it were a negotiable moral prohibition, but rather to stand in the context of our teaching about who God is. He made this clear in his June 16 homily at the worldwide "Day of the Gospel of Life" when he declared,

"The Scriptures everywhere tell us that God is the Living one, the one who bestows life and points the way to the fullness of life…The commandments are not a litany of prohibitions -- you must not do this, you must not do that, you must not do the other; on the contrary, they are a great "Yes!": a yes to God, to Love, to life."

"All too often, as we know from experience, people do not choose life, they do not accept the "Gospel of Life" but let themselves be led by ideologies and ways of thinking that block life, that do not respect life, because they are dictated by selfishness, self-interest, profit, power, and pleasure, and not by love…As a result, the Living God is replaced by fleeting human idols which offer the intoxication of a flash of freedom, but in the end bring new forms of slavery and death."

This approach radically strengthens the Church's opposition to abortion, because the Pope is saying not simply that it breaks the Fifth Commandment ("You shall not kill"), but that more fundamentally it breaks the First Commandment ("You shall not have other gods besides me") and that to disrespect life is to abandon God himself.

Nobody should worry or think that the Pope is in any way diluting the Church's strong and unchangeable stance against abortion, or contradicting all that has already been said and written, in documents like The Gospel of Life, about the urgent priority that this issue deserves. Some 50 million children are killed by abortion around the world each year. If we want to know how much we should focus on it, we only have to use human reason and ask what our response would be if 50 million adults throughout the world were killed each year by terrorism.

Long live the pro-life movement, and long live the Pope!

CARROTS, EGG AND COFFEE

A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee...You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.
A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.
Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying
a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.

Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see."

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled, as she tasted its rich aroma the daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its insides became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.
"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

ACCEPTANCE

There is a tendency among people to think that when we accept things, we're being weak and allowing life to "have its way" with us, that we're relinquishing control over our lives.  Nothing, though, could be further from the truth.  Acceptance simply shows a great sense of awareness, and it allows us to be fully present in each moment as we make our ways through life.

Sometimes we get so caught up in seeing life as we want it to be that we're completely unable to see life as it is.  When that happens, we're unable to deal with our situations as they are because we still see them as we want them to be.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.

Carl Rogers

Very often, our need to accept ourselves is our strongest need of all.  We are who we are, and no amount of wishful thinking will make us someone else, will make us different.  We are the product of our environments, the product of our genetic material, and the product of the choices and decisions that we've made and the thoughts that we have.  We may be able to start right now to become someone different for tomorrow, but there really is no way of changing who we are at this moment.  It's important to realize that we've done the best that we've can, we've made mistakes, and we've had our triumphs, and we are who we are.  Accept that, and move on with your life, or deny it, and remain unable to make positive changes because you're not in touch with what really needs to be changed.

Acceptance is not giving up, and it's not being fatalistic, and it's not resignation.  Rather, it's the healthy recognition of things as they are, a recognition that can help us to move on with our lives and improve them, and improve ourselves.  Without acceptance, we continue to fight against forces that we deny even exist; with acceptance, we're able to work with life in order to make our lives and our experiences more positive and more fulfilling.

NOVENA TO ST. THERESE OF LISIEUX - DAY ONE

Peace be with you!

I hope you're as excited as I am to pray this novena!

St. Therese is well known for answering prayers in spectacular ways :)  I cannot tell you the showers of roses that I have received over the years since choosing St. Therese as my Patron Saint. It might be one big rose, or a bunch of roses, but IMMEDIATELY, I know they are from her, and I stop and thank her no matter where I am, or what I am doing.  St. Therese has a very special bond with Jesus Christ.  She will intercede for you always!

Just keep an eye out for roses! I'd love to hear if you see roses in your life as an answer to your prayers!

POSITIVE THOUGHTS

When we sit, we open our own treasure house. Rather than do this, however, most of us first seek to find the treasures another person can provide. We calculate their value to us. When we approach relationships in this manner, we are coming as beggars, seeing the other as a source of supply. When we can enter a relationship with our treasure house already open, there is no end to the wonders we can find, both within and between ourselves and another.

If you want love, give love.  If you want friends, be friendly.  If you’d like to feel understood, try being more understanding.  It’s a simple practice that works.

Some people will test you, some will use you, and some will teach you; but most importantly some will bring out the best in you.  Learn to see and accept the differences between these people, and carry on accordingly.

If your relationship with yourself isn’t working, don’t expect your other relationships to be any different.  Nobody else in this world can make you happy.  It’s something you have to do on your own.  And you have to create your own happiness first before you can share it with someone else.  If you feel that it’s your partner’s fault, think again, and look within yourself to find out what piece is missing.  Your partner can never ‘complete’ you because you are already whole.  The longing for completion that you feel inside comes from being out of touch with who you are.

Forgiveness is not saying, “What you did to me is okay.”  It is saying, “I’m not going to let what you did to me ruin my happiness forever.”  Forgiveness is the answer.  It doesn’t mean you’re erasing the past, or forgetting what happened. It means you’re letting go of the resentment and pain, and instead choosing to learn from the incident and move on with your life.

WISDOM

  • In life you’ll realize there is a purpose for everyone you meet.  Some will test you, some will use you, and some will teach you.  But most importantly, some will bring out the best in you.
  • Keep people in your life who truly love you, motivate you, encourage you, enhance you, and make you happy.  If you know people who do none of these things, let them go.
  • Love is not about sex, going on fancy dates, or showing off.  It’s about being with a person who makes you happy in a way nobody else can.
  • Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring – all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
  • The most beautiful thing is to see a person you love smiling.  And even more beautiful is knowing that you are the reason behind it.
  • Choose your relationships wisely.  It’s better to be alone than to be in bad company.
  • Being alone does not mean you are lonely, and being lonely does not meanyou are alone.
  • Fall in love when you’re ready, not when you’re lonely.
  • Love means giving someone the chance to hurt you, but trusting them not to.
  • You know you’ve found true love when you catch yourself falling in love with the same person over and over again.
  • Don’t wait for the right person to come into your life.  Rather, be the right person to come to someone’s life.
  • The one who is meant for you encourages you to be your best, but still loves and accepts you at your worst.
  • Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.
  • Just because one person doesn’t seem to care for you, doesn’t mean you should forget about everyone else who does.
  • Someone else doesn’t have to be wrong for you to be right.
  • It is okay to be angry.  It is never okay to be cruel.
  • Never do something permanently foolish just because you are temporarily upset.
  • Silence is often the loudest cry.  Pay attention to those you care about.
  • We don’t always need advice.  Sometimes all we need is a hand to hold, an ear to listen, and a heart to understand.

SAINT THERESE NOVENA BEGINS THIS SUNDAY

Abbey - Peace be with you!

Sunday is the first day of the novena to St. Therese!.

St. Therese is known as a miracle worker. She is a powerful intercessor and she wants nothing more than for you to come closer to Jesus.

St. Therese was a very holy young carmelite nun in France. She lived a simple yet profound life that was entirely dedicated to God.

Nuns are great, don't you think?

Wouldn't the world be better off with more nuns like St. Therese?

If you agree, then I think you will like my intention for this novena!

But, before I tell you what it is, I want to remind you to spread the word about this novena!

Think about who in your life needs God right now...

Think of those people and then invite them to sign up to pray with you here:

They can find all the prayers and join us at that link.

Ok, now to my intention...

Like I said, it would be great to have more holy nuns just like St. Therese! So, I'm praying for this great project that is encouraging young women to answer God's call!

It's called the One Rose project.

I could tell you more about it, but it would be best if you just watch the video here:

I hope you'll be a part of the One Rose Project :)

Now, to post your intention for this novena - go here:

*Note - If you post an intention, your name will be posted publicly. If your intention is private in nature you can use your initials instead.

We're praying for you!

God bless you!

P.S. The novena starts on Sunday, so be sure to spread the word right away!

GOD WHISPERS IN MY EAR

COMMANDMENTS FOR A HAPPY RELATIONSHIP

Love is not just about finding the right person, but creating the right relationship.  It’s not about how much love you have in the beginning, but how much love you build until the end.  A relationship should be healthy, caring, loving, kind, upbeat, and positive.  It should make your smile a little wider and your life a little brighter.
Happy, healthy personal relationships are one of the greatest joys of life.  So starting today, choose to take control of your relationship with your significant other.  Here are ten commandments to follow together.
You deserve to be with somebody who makes you smile – somebody who doesn’t take you for granted  somebody who won’t hurt you.

I.  We will remember that every person and relationship is different.

People don’t fall in love with what makes you the same; they fall in love with what makes you different.  Be your imperfectly perfect self.  We are not perfect for everyone, we are only perfect for those select few people that really take the time to get to know us and love us for who we really are.  And to those select few, being our imperfectly perfect self is what they love most about us.

Don’t compare your relationship to anyone else’s – not your parent’s, friend’s, coworker’s, or that random couple whose relationship seems perfect.  Every couple makes their own love rules, love agreements, and love habits.  Just focus on you two, and making your relationship the best it can be.

II.  We will listen to each other openly, without judgment.

It’s far too easy to look at someone and make a snap judgment about them.  But you’d be amazed at the pain and tears a smile hides.  What a person shows to the public is only a small fraction of the iceberg hidden from sight.  And more often than not, it’s lined with cracks and scars that run all the way to the foundation of their soul.

Never judge.  Learn to respect and acknowledge the feelings of your significant other.  Pay close attention to them.  Be present.  We don’t always need advice.  Sometimes all we need is a hand to hold, an ear to listen, and a heart to understand.  There is a time to speak out and a time to remain silent.  True wisdom comes from knowing the difference.  And this difference can make or break a healthy relationship.

VERY DEAR REV. BILLY GRAHAM HITS THE WORLD'S NAIL ON THE HEAD

Age: 93-- Truth............from a man the  media  has never been able to throw dirt on.....amazing!
He has certainly hit the "world" on  the  head!
1.69801067@web181503.mail.ne1.yahoo.comBilly  Graham's  Prayer For Our Nation
THIS MAN SURE HAS A GOOD VIEW OF  WHAT'S  HAPPENING TO OUR COUNTRY!

'Heavenly Father, we come  before you  today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and  guidance.  We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but  that is  exactly what we have done.
We have lost our spiritual  equilibrium  and reversed our values.
We have exploited the poor and  called it  the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it  welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have  shot  abortionists and called it justifiable...
We have neglected  to  discipline our children and called it building self esteem.
We  have  abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our  neighbor's  possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the  air with  profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We  have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and  called it  enlightenment.
Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts  today; cleanse  us from sin and Set us free. Amen!'

With the  Lord's help, may  this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly  become our desire  so that we once again can be called 'One nation  under  God!'
Think about this: If  you forward  this prayer to everyone on your e-mail list, in less than 30  days it  would be heard by the world. (It's worth a try!) 'One Nation  Under  God"

I NEED YOU LORD and PRAYER FOR THE SICK

I am now two days post op, and no, I didn't have a facelift but thought it looked a lot like I feel. The second day following major surgery is always the worst: the worse pain, discomfort, soreness and stiffness, and I cannot stretch from that 30% elevated sleeping because I might break a stich or two.  I've talked via SKYPE with my dear English brother in Christ, Pete from Norfolk, England.  He's been the best prayer buddy, and he's talked me through some difficult times more effectively that ..... shhhhh .... my therapist.  She seems to listen, where Pete makes me question myself, and he patiently awaits my answers! ha! He's a good bloke of a man and is married to Joan for 53 years.  I would ask that you Pray for Joan in Norfolk as they are still running tests on her to see why her breathing is so bad.

I'm so very tired, so I'm sure you will grant me respite to rest up a bit and I shall see you dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ a little later. I just wanted you to know that I lived through the surgery (LOL!) and that I had great care as there were only 4 patients in my hospital wing and four nurses. It doesn't get any better than that.

I most humbly ask that you to say these prayers for me; they may have just something just for you!

Love you all dearly and know I pray for you as you pray for me,
Abbey

"Everyday I need you Lord..."

Every day I need You Lord
But this day especially,
I need some extra strength
To face what ever is to be.

This day more than any day
I need to feel You near,
To fortify my courage
And to overcome my fear.

By myself, I cannot meet
The challenge of the hour,
There are times when humans help,
But we need a higher power

To assist us bear what must be borne,
and so dear Lord, I pray -
Hold on to my trembling hand
And be near me today.
Amen.

Prayer to be Said by a Sick Person

O Merciful Infant Jesus! I know of Your miraculous deeds for the sick. How many diseases You cured during Your blessed life on earth, and how many venerators of Your Miraculous image ascribe to You their recovery and deliverance from most painful and hopeless maladies. I know, indeed, that a sinner like me has merited his sufferings and has no right to ask for favors. But in view of the innumerable graces and the miraculous cures granted even to the greatest sinners through the veneration of Your holy infancy, particularly in the miraculous statue of Prague or in representations of it, I exclaim with the greatest assurance: O most loving Infant Jesus, full of pity, You can cure me if You will! Do not hesitate, O Heavenly Physician, if it be Your will that I recover from this present illness; extend Your most holy Hands, and by Your power take away all pain and infirmity, so that my recovery may be due, not to natural remedies, but to You alone. If, however, You in Your inscrutable wisdom have determined otherwise, then at least restore my soul to perfect health, and fill me with heavenly consolation and blessing, that I may be like You, O Jesus, in my sufferings, and may glorify Your providence until, at the death of my body, You bestow on me eternal life.
Amen.

TODAY'S BIBLE VERSE

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Matthew 6:25-27 (NIV)

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ?
~*~

Confessing my EXTREME guilt of being a terrible worrier.  I'm not rich enough to worry in excess over clothes, but I do sometimes change clothes once or twice; but, that is because, I am ashamed to say, that I have gained a LOT of weight since marrying in 1971.

People put so much stock in a person's size.  It's very sad, really.  Do you not know that this person is already suffering dreadfully on the inside?  Well, THEY ARE AND NOW YOU KNOW so you can change your ways and stop judging that overweight person when you see them.  If you knew them, you'd probably love them.

I don't fret much over what to have for dinner because my husband will most likely come in and put some chicken fingers in the oven and make himself a salad.  He drinks peach tea, as do I, but not with my meals as he does.  So I have my own pitcher of decaf Southern sweetened tea!

But back to the birds and other creatures, I spend a lot of time outside on my patio during spring, summer and fall until it gets too cold.  I have a fairly large (for this neighborhood), flat (almost unheard-of) back yard that is surrounded by a chain-link fence.  I have one tree because I planted it five years ago and it grew at a much faster pace than I had anticipated and its roots are killing the grass. I built a garden around it lined with decorative bricks, but in four years, I haven't been able to get a think to grow underneath.  The yard is surrounded by the neighbor's pines and hard leaf trees, and there's the neighborhood parks for the kids right on the other side of the fence.  We don't lack for scenery.

I direct my attention to the sounds I hear.  In the morning, there is a bird that sounds as if he is perched on my second floor window seal outside.  That is the first sound of daylight coming.  I don't know how it is, but that is one of the sweetest sounds on God's green earth.  Eventually, there's another, and another, and soon there are a lot of different sounding birds all talking and answering one another, or are they singing their morning symphony for all to hear?  I listen until I cannot stand it any longer.

I get up, make my coffee and sit outside listening to all the critters awakening.  One who doesn't live here might be alarmed by the swift sounds coming from a nearby tree, but look, it's one squirrel chasing another and he will finally corner her when she runs to the end of a limb and has no place to jump.  Just when he thinks he's got her, she turns on a dime upside down and escapes and the pursuit is on again.

Oh look, there's the beautiful red cardinal sitting on the fence. Her color reminds me of the red colors of The Church during the seasons of her liturgy.

And then, there is the bluebird! He flies up to the tree limbs and checks out the vicinity above and below.  He flies away quickly and I often wonder about all of them, where are they going?

A bird's life is simple, really, and if you're doing all you've ever known, then you are extremely happy!  There will always be some kind of food for every creature.  It's called the food chain.  But I am elated especially when first one, then a second cardinal arrives in the spring.

In late summer, we have several hummingbirds who will make you laugh and then sit in awe as they drink from the feeder you've hung for them.  They are so delicate, yet their wings fly at such speeds that they make a pretty good noise.  I know, because two were in a chase and they flew one behind the other right past my head!  You'll never catch one, although I'd love to look at one closely and hold it, but it was not meant to be.

We found a bird's nest build on the side of the fascia board of the upper deck this year.  My husband watched it every day until he saw the little heads up chirping to their mama that means "feed me". I don't know how she built the next on the side of a flat space, much less what she feeds them, but there is food.  Amazing and the little nest did the trick!

Point is, the animals and foul of the earth do not worry about what may come.  Look at the cows lying undeneath a tree on a country road.  I often wonder "what are they thinking?"  Whatever it is, I can assure you they are not worrying about what outfit to wear to the barn to eat, and the birds are not carrying around iPhones to notify people with selfer pictures where they are; and the squirrels will be seen year-round, although in fewer numbers in winter, and I will watch them dig in my yard for a nut they've buried. How do they know where they are?  One of God's miracles.

Thus, do we add a single hour to our lives by worrying? No. In fact, excessive worry can be harmful to your health.  Everything happens for a reason. I don't now why there are homeless people; I don't know why the very rich have so much yet are so discontent wanting more.

God takes care of ALL and that encompasses more than you can imagine without quickly boggling your mind.  I know because when I'm watching these creatures in the day and thinking about them and what's next, and why God created that kind of tree and then that other kind of tree, and that bush, and why that one blooms in spring, and the grass, why with all our work does the back yard not thrive?  This is just in my little 90X150 piece of land where we live. I cannot even begin to fathom all that is happening in the entire world, but then, GOD KNOWS ALL.  Thinking how he keeps up with it all is just mind boggling and so, I let it go and return my thoughts to the most recent book I'm reading on my Kindle as I drink a glass of peach tea, and I think, how very blessed I am.  And I say "Thank you, God. I have it pretty good and it would not be without Your Love for me."

I also have long prayer sessions out there because there is no one to interrupt me, no phones, no people, just nature. I will try, dearest God, to not worry because you have finished plans for my today and are already working on tomorrow's plans.  I pray and give thanks, and I look at the sky as if I expect to see His face.  One day perhaps.

Bless you and yours this day with good healthy and safety,
Abbey
