TODAY'S SCRIPTURE READINGS

Epistle: Gal. 4:8-21; "[8] But then indeed, not knowing God, you served them, who, by nature, are not gods. [9] But now, after that you have known God, or rather are known by God: how turn you again to the weak and needy elements, which you desire to serve again? [10] You observe days, and months, and times, and years. [11] I am afraid of you, lest perhaps I have laboured in vain among you. [12] Be ye as I, because I also am as you: brethren, I beseech you: you have not injured me at all. [13] And you know, how through infirmity of the flesh, I preached the gospel to you heretofore: and your temptation in my flesh, [14] You despised not, nor rejected: but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. [15] Where is then your blessedness? For I bear you witness, that, if it could be done, you would have plucked out your own eyes, and would have given them to me. [16] Am I then become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? [17] They are zealous in your regard not well: but they would exclude you, that you might be zealous for them. [18] But be zealous for that which is good in a good thing always: and not only when I am present with you. [19] My little children, of whom I am in labour again, until Christ be formed in you. [20] And I would willingly be present with you now, and change my voice: because I am ashamed for you. [21] Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, have you not read the law?"

Gospel: Mark 6:45-53; "[45] And immediately he obliged his disciples to go up into the ship, that they might go before him over the water to Bethsaida, whilst he dismissed the people. [46] And when he had dismissed them, he went up to the mountain to pray. [47] And when it was late, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and himself alone on the land. [48] And seeing them labouring in rowing, (for the wind was against them,) and about the fourth watch of the night, he cometh to them walking upon the sea, and he would have passed by them. [49] But they seeing him walking upon the sea, thought it was an apparition, and they cried out. [50] For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he spoke with them, and said to them: Have a good heart, it is I, fear ye not.

TWELVE DAYS OF PRAY FOR THE HOLY SOULS - DAY THREE

Twelve Days of Prayer for the Holy Souls

Immortal God, Holy Lord, Father and Protector of all You have created, we raise our hearts to You today for those who have passed out of this mortal life.

In Your loving mercy, Father, be pleased to receive them in Your heavenly company, and forgive the failings and faults they may have done from human frailty.

Your only Son, Christ, our Savior, suffered so cruelly that He might deliver them from the second death. By His merits may they share in the glory of His victory over sin and death.

For all the faithful who have died we pray, but in particular for those dear to us, parents, relatives, and friends. Nor do we forget all who did good to us while on earth, who helped us by their prayers, sacrifices, and example. We pray also for any who may have done us harm, and stand in special need of Your forgiveness.

May the merits and prayers of our Virgin Mother, Mary, and those of all Your angels and saints, speak for us and assist them now. We ask this in Christ's name. Amen.

DAY THREE

Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you, my friends, for the hand of God has touched me. - Job 19:21

REFLECTION: By our offering of Mass, and our faithfulness in prayer and good works, we help those dear to us who may still remain in purgatory. Those we aid on the last stage of their journey home to God will never forget us for our help in their hour of need.

PRAYER: Lord, our God, may the merits of Jesus Christ, of His virgin Mother, and of all the saints intercede for us and assist those who still patiently await the vision of Your glory. Amen.

May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

TWELVE DAYS OF PRAYER FOR THE HOLY SOULS - DAY TWO

I apologize that I am so late with this - life happening! But you have it now, so please pray with me.

Lovingly in Christ,

DAY TWO

Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord! Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. - Psalm 130:1-2

REFLECTION: Let us think often of those souls suffering as they are purified of their earthly faults and failings. They endure the pain of separation from God, and yet are consoled by the certainty of their salvation. God's beauty attracts them even as the weight of their unworthiness holds them. They need and cry to us for help.

PRAYER: Have pity, O Lord, our God, on all who patiently await the joy of Your presence. Forgive their sins and failings, and in Your goodness summon them soon to You. Amen.

May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

I LOOK TO YOU, LORD

TWELVE DAYS OF PRAYER FOR THE HOLY SOULS

Peace be with you, my friends in Christ.  Today is the last day of the St. Monica Novena, but I am going to begin today the "Twelve Days of Prayer for the Holy Souls".  Won't you please pray with me as I post the prayer for each day?  With every prayer, your heart grows closer to Him, with every prayer you receive His Graces, so please, pray for the Holy Souls for the next nine days.

God bless you,

Day 1

"Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted."  ~Matthew 5:5

REFLECTION: The pain of loss and separation at death is hard to bear. Let us turn to God, the Author of Life, for comfort and consolation in sorrow. God sends us every trial for a greater good. For love of us, remember, He did not spare His only Son.

PRAYER: O Lord, God, have pity on us and the departed souls so dear to us, and relieve our pain and grief. By the suffering of Christ, our Savior, in His Agony and Passion have mercy on all our beloved dead. Assist us, too, to greater faith in Your goodness. Amen.

May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

HAPPY FEAST OF SAINT MONICA - DAY NINE NOVENA PRAYERS

Peace be with you!

Happy Feast of St. Monica!

I hope that this novena has brought you closer to God through St. Monica!

Here at PrayMoreNovenas, at the end of every novena, we always pray the following as our final prayer:

Let us pray...

Dear Lord Jesus, I have specific requests that may only partially fill the infinite needs and desires that are in my heart. I ask that You answer me not only for those requests but also for a greater reliance on You to satisfy the needs and desires that You have given me.

Please grant the prayers of all those who prayed this novena with me. Bless them with Your love and make them holy!

May I seek You with a sincere heart knowing that it will profit me nothing if I gain the whole world yet lose my soul.

So, help me to see Your good and gracious purpose in all my trials. Help me to see Your blessings in every day and help me to love You more.

Thank You for everything, Lord Jesus!

Amen!

Thank you again for praying with me and thousands of faithful people around the world!

If this novena has been helpful to you please make a small donation to keep this ministry running here:

Thank you so much for praying today!

God Bless You,

"HOW GREAT THOU ART"

I was in tears at the end of the performance of one of the old gospel songs on which I was raised.  love God with every fibre of my being, and I live for Him and the day when Jesus meets me and says "Come and meet my Father."  God bless you †††

SAINT MONICA NOVENA - DAY NINE

Peace be with you!

God has blessed us in so many ways, it is often easy to forget His blessings. It is often easy to focus only on the bad things in life.

Today, let's thank God for all His blessings in our lives!

Here are the prayers for today:

Dear Saint Monica, you were once the mournful mother of a prodigal son. Your faithfulness to prayer brought you and your son so close to God that you are now with him in eternity. By your intercession and God's grace, your son St. Augustine became a great and venerable Saint of the Church. Please take my request to God with the same fervor and persistence with which you prayed for your own son.

(Mention your intentions here)

With your needs, worries and anxieties, you threw yourself on the mercy and providence of God. Through sorrow and pain, you constantly devoted yourself to God. Pray for me that I might join you in such a deep faith in God's goodness and mercy.

Above all, dear Saint Monica, pray for me that I may, like your son, turn from my sin and become a great saint for the glory of God.

Amen.

Medjugorje Message - August 25

On August 25, 2013, Our Lady appeared to the visionary Marija and delivered the following message to the world.
"Dear children! Also today, the Most High is giving me the grace to be with you and to lead you towards conversion. Every day I am sowing and am calling you to conversion, that you may be prayer, peace, love - the grain that by dying will give birth a hundredfold. I do not desire for you, dear children, to have to repent for everything that you could have done but did not want to. Therefore, little children, again, with enthusiasm say: 'I want to be a sign to others.' Thank you for having responded to my call."

SAINT MONICA NOVENA PRAYERS - DAY EIGHT

LOVE IS THE ANSWER

We live in a disposable society.

We buy things, use them and then throw them away.

Our landfills continue to grow, despite no one wanting garbage in their own back yard.

Meanwhile, debt is also growing.  People continue to spend money they don’t have on things they don’t need.

We need to come back to reality.  We need to focus on growth in our bank accounts, not on growth in the landfills and growth in our debt.

So what’s the solution?

How can people grow their savings, while shrinking their garbage and depleting their debt?

Love is the answer.

We need to learn to appreciate what we already have.  We need to love what we have.

If you love what you have, you don’t feel the need for more.  If you love what you have, you can easily say no when you’re bombarded with 3000 marketing messages to buy each day (as estimated by Doug Hall at doughall.com).  If you love what you have, you’re not going to throw something out once it gets a little used.

People who love what they have are happy.  They see the beauty in what they’ve got.  When they buy new stuff, they are very selective--because it has to be something they can love.  People who love what they have perform proper maintenance, and ensure they get the most out of their purchases.

If you’re looking for ways to reduce the money you spend this year, spend some time admiring what you already have. Love your possessions.  Maintain them so they last longer.

Disposable items are always more costly in the long run.  Loving what you have costs nothing, but can save you lots of money.  It can also save you time.  You won’t need to run out and get something new just because you have money in your pocket.  Why would you want something new?  Save time and money by loving what you already own!

Is it any wonder that the average "millionaire next door" has a car that’s eight years old?  People that are rich love what they have.  They know the value of quality, and they know the value of getting the most out of their purchases.

Do you spend time dreaming of a new car, or loving the car you’ve got?  Do you spend time dreaming of new furniture, a new house or new clothes?  Or do you spend some quality time loving the furniture, house and clothes you’ve already been blessed with?

What’s going to save you money and make you happier?  Loving what you have, or dreaming of what you don’t have?

Save your money, your time and your environment this year:  love what you have.

IGNITUM TODAY - A MUST READ!

Posted: 23 Aug 2013 08:59 PM PDT
ID-100156540

I missed the quiet years for a minute today when I stumbled upon an abrasive tweet about the pope, written by an evangelical Christian.
The quiet years are the six I spent not texting, the two or three sans social media, the life before my smartphone (which I only have owned since December).
I missed the not knowing what people are saying, the freedom from unsolicited opinions that I implicitly solicit every time I press “follow.” This is because what people say sometimes reminds me of any and all of the times the misinformed mistreated me for being Catholic.
Of being in fourth grade and being told by a pastor’s wife that my church is of the devil.
Of being in fifth grade and being told by my teacher that it is harder for me to get to heaven, because I’m Catholic.
Of being in sixth grade and watching a Protestant pastor tell the student body at my Christian school that the Catholic Church is a cult.
Of being in seventh grade and having to tell my history teacher I don’t worship Mary.
Of being in tenth grade and handing my Church’s creed to my principal and demanding that he show me where it says I worship saints. Of suggesting, when he couldn’t find it, that he replace the history curriculum with one that doesn’t misinform his students. (And he did.)
Oh, the adrenaline. How I would shake.
It’s true, even now, even if the message arrives via tweet, that I don’t really want to be bothered. That eight years (5th grade through 12th) is a lot of years to debate. That I am nine years out of high school and still kind of tired. But hear this:
I would not trade it.
My parents invited me to transfer to public school, but I said no.
I liked my school. The experience.
Much of it made me who I am. It pushed and stretched me. I learned to let go, to forgive, and to coexist. Yes, I was at first the fifth grader whose ex-Catholic teacher told our class how bad it is to be Catholic. But I was also the fifth grader who sat on the couch with my Catholic mom and my Jewish dad and listened to Scott Hahn tapes. I was the fifth grader who sat in the pew and watched a priest baptize my dad, who watched her dad make his first communion.
When I read that tweet today, I shook. Just when I thought we could get along… “Another step back.” But I only missed the quiet years for a minute. I only missed them for a minute because I realized:
One person’s step back doesn’t haven’t to be mine.
That a person is misinformed or misunderstands doesn’t change the truth about my Church. The misinformed can mistreat me, and it doesn’t change the truth about me. Nobody but Christ can discern my faith as real or fake. I can choose dialogue over debate, love over hate, and to unplug for awhile if what surrounds me is abrasive.
I can invite anybody open to it, to let go, to forgive, to coexist.
To – like Pope Francis and his evangelical associates – sip drinks and pray and read the Bible together.
To disagree and love and like each other anyway.
To step forward, into something better and closer to whole.

A PRAYER

I have the most beautiful friendship with someone far away, across the Atlantic. He is sort of like your best friend to whom you feel your deepest secrets are safe. I get moral support, prayers like the one below, we're serious, but then we laugh a lot. We Skype, which is the best thing since sliced bread, and he is a very Godly man and understands my spiritual side, too. God had to have put us in one another's path. Our first contact followed a post by me on Twitter saying, "I don't want politics; I want prayer."  That hit a chord and thus we became friends, and now, confidantes and advisors. He asks questions that make me THINK about my life and trials, all this for free! We are just two people who want to live a Christlike life and make it to heaven.

O God you are the light of the minds that know you
the life of the souls that love you
And the strength of the wills that serve you:
Help us so to know you that we may truly love you
And so to love you that we may fully serve you
Whom to serve is perfect freedom
Through Jesus Christ ourLord.

~St. Augustine of Hippo

FROM "POSITIVE THOUGHTS"

Posted: 23 Aug 2013 04:19 AM PDT
Follow your heart,
never surrender your dreams.
Constantly work towards your goals.
Believe in yourself, and always be truthful.
Take time to enjoy life's pleasures.
Keep your mind open to new experiences.
Think before acting,
but don't forget the joys of spontaneity.
Make your own decisions.
Look out for yourself, but remember
that you share this universe with others.
Look for the good in others,
everybody has their own song to sing.
Live each moment to the fullest,
for a moment too soon becomes a memory.
Look for opportunities, not guarantees.
Hope for the best.
Give people a chance to love you,
for that is how you learn to love.
Live your life for yourself,
but always be considerate of others.
Believe in tomorrow, for it holds the key
to your dreams.

BE STILL, MY SOUL

Another beautiful hymn sent to me from my friend across the Atlantic in England.  Before it was finished, I was singing, too. It's a beautiful song and the message is, or should be, very familiar to you.

Peace, Love & Joy,

"A NEW DAY"

SAINT MONICA NOVENA - DAY FIVE

Today let's pray for all those who have fallen away from the Church. St. Monica's son St. Augustine was away for many years and she had such a strong devotion to Christ that she persevered in hope that her son would one day return to God.

Her faithfulness was rewarded after many years.  Let's pray for those in our lives who have fallen away!

PRAYER OF SAINT FRANCIS

Prayer of St Francis

  Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.

TWO PRAYERS JUST FOR MOI

My dear friends in Christ, I have a very special friend, a friend who lives across the waters and whom I have only seen and talked to on Skype, But he is like a father, very wise, and who sends me poetry and song to lift my aching heart.  My heart has ached for some time now; there is some respite here and there, but the underlying cause of my sadness is always there. Pray for me, won't you?  And read the following, which I found both profound, and extremely beautiful.

With my love,
Abbey

~*~

O Lord,my heart is all a prayer,
But it is silent unto thee
I am too tired to look for words
I rest upon thy sympathy
To understand when I am dumb
And well I know thou hearest me

I know thou hearest me because
A quiet PEACE comes down to me
And fills the places where before
Weak thoughts were wandering wearily;
And deep within me it is calm
Thought waves are Tossing outwardly

~Amy Carmichael  1867

        ~*~

O Lord, I know not what to ask of thee
Thou alone knowest what are my true needs
Thou lovest me more then I myself know how to love
Help me to see my real needs
which are concealed from me
I dare not ask either a cross or consolation
I can only wait on thee
My heart is open to thee
Visit and help me
For thy great mercy's sake
Strike me and heal me
Cast me down and raise me up
I worship in silence thy Holy will
And thine inscrutable ways
I offer myself as a sacrifice to thee
I put all my trust in thee
I have no other desire than to fulfil thy will
Teach me how to pray
Pray thou thyself in me

A Country Founded by Geniuses but Run by Idiots

by Jeff Foxworthy:

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for entering and ...remaining in the country illegally - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents' permission to go on a field trip or to take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you MUST show your identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor, or check out a library book and rent a video, but not to vote for who runs the government - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government wants to prevent stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds, but gives twenty F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If, in the nation's largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not one 24-ounce soda, because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman or a three-year-old girl who is confined to a wheelchair can be strip-searched by the TSA at the airport, but a woman in a burka or a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If a seven-year-old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his teacher is "cute," but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government regulation and intrusion, while not working is rewarded with Food Stamps, WIC checks, Medicaid benefits, subsidized housing, and free cell phones - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government's plan for getting people back to work is to provide incentives for not working, by granting 99 weeks of unemployment checks, without any requirement to prove that gainful employment was diligently sought, but couldn't be found - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you pay your mortgage faithfully, denying yourself the newest big-screen TV, while your neighbor buys iPhones, time shares, a wall-sized do-it-all plasma screen TV and new cars, and the government forgives his debt when he defaults on his mortgage - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If being stripped of your Constitutional right to defend yourself makes you more "safe" according to the government - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

What a country!

How about we give God a reason to continue blessing America!

Amen, Jeff!

NOVENA TO SAINT MONICA - DAY THREE

Today's Novena to Saint Monica contains some information I didn't know; perhaps you will be surprised as I was. The intention for "marriages" is wonderful because it seems that there is more and more strife in the area of marriage than ever, not just in our country, but in our country divorce is such an easy OUT!

God bless each of you and bring you much happiness and peace,
Abbey

~*~

Saint Monica endured a difficult and troubled marriage for many years. Through her suffering and prayer she eventually converted her husband. Today let's pray for troubled marriages.

Amen.

THIS DAY'S THOUGHT, VERSE AND SMILE

This Day's Thought

Prayer no longer seems like an activity to me; it has become the continuing language of the relationship I believe God designed to fulfill a human life.

Keith Miller
This Day's Verse

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own.  But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:13-14
The English Standard Version
This Day's Smile

The severe drought this summer in the south prompted a visiting pastor to pray for rain.  The next day there was a torrential downpour that ruined the crops.  "Well that's what happens," said one of the farmers wryly, "When you get a pastor that ain't familiar with agriculture."

SAINT MONICA NOVENA PRAYERS - DAY ONE

Peace be with you All! I had my littlest grandson, Cooper, all weekend, and I spent Monday taking my son to the doctor, lunch and other errands, so I am behind in this Novena.  The following is DAY ONE, which was Sunday.  I'm going to catch up with yesterday and then today and we'll be on track. God bless you. It will do no harm to say this Novena three times today to catch up; in fact, it may make it more powerful for you and your family.  God bless you always and peace be with you.

Lovingly,
Abbey

In addition to your intentions, let's pray for parents in particular today. The vocation of being a mother or a father is extremely important in our society and in the eyes of God. I'd like to pray for all mothers and fathers to be good and holy examples for their children.

THE TEN SECRETS REVEALED IN MARIAN APPARITIONS

This has been an extremely popular post, so I decided to re-run it for those new followers who may not have seen it.

Dear Friends in Christ: The time to come to conversion is NOW!  Only through prayer, conversion and reconciliation will those who have come to complete conversion be spared great wrath and times of suffering.

MEDJUGORJE

The Story

The message of impending disaster allegedly revealed at Garabandal was repeated, with more detail, in Yugoslavia a decade later. In June 1981, six young people from the mountain village of Medjugorje reportedly encountered Mary near the top of Mount Podbrdo, a small mountain located in central Yugoslavia. In a series of apparitions that still continues, but with much less frequency, she reportedly sent a message of faith, prayer, fasting, conversion and peace. In these apparitions Mary said she came to bring humanity back to her Son; and warned that Satan is especially active in these times and that it was necessary to pray fervently and often to ward off his advances.

During the early 1980s, Medjugorje became well known initially throughout Europe, with newspaper reports in Le Monde and the Financial Times; by the late '80s it had become known throughout the world. As a result of its growing fame, more than ten million pilgrims had visited it by the tenth anniversary of the first apparition. On the tenth anniversary, conflict broke out among the Bosnian Serbs and Croats. Despite this conflict, thousands of pilgrims still manage to make the dangerous journey to Medjugorje each year.

Since the apparitions have lasted for such a long time, it has been possible to subject the visionaries to a number of medical, physical and psychological tests. Physiological and psychological tests showed them to be bright, well-adjusted teenagers.

In the reports of her appearances here, Mary is said to ask each of us to become aware of the active and destructive role that Satan plays in the modern world and to protect ourselves against Satan's actions. To emphasize the urgency of her requests, she will entrust each of the visionaries with ten secrets detailing the events that will transpire if humanity fails to correct itself. At this time (1997), two of the visionaries have received the ten secrets. The remaining visionaries have received nine. She has also told the visionaries that when the apparitions cease at Medjugorje, they will cease at all other Marian apparition sites. When this occurs, the events described in the secrets will begin to unfold.

The Secrets

The ten secrets of Medjugorje appear to be a continuation of the Fatima Secrets and are similar in general character to the secrets described at Garabandal. A report sent from the Bishop of Mostar to the Pope stated, "According to Mirjana, during the apparition on December 25, 1982, the Madonna confided the tenth and last secret to her, and she revealed the dates on which the various secrets will come to pass. The Blessed Virgin revealed many aspects of the future to Mirjana, many more up to now than to the other seers. For that reason, I relate now what Mirjana told me in a conversation on November 5, 1983 I shall summarize the essential things she said, without any literal quotations. Before the visible sign is given to humanity, there will be three warnings to the world. The warnings will be warnings on the earth. Mirjana will witness them. Three days before one of these warnings, she will advise a priest of her choice. Mirjana's testimony will be a confirmation of the apparitions and an incentive for the conversion of the world. After these warnings, the visible sign will be given for all humanity at the place of the apparitions in Medjugorje. The sign will be given as the testimony of the apparitions and a call back to faith."

The Bishop's letter continued, "The ninth and tenth secrets are grave matters. They are a chastisement for the sins of the world. The punishment is inevitable because we cannot expect the conversion of the entire world. The chastisement can be mitigated by prayers and penance. It cannot be suppressed. After the first warning, the others will follow within a rather brief period of time. So it is that people will have time for conversion. This time is a period of grace and conversion. After the visible sign, those who are still alive will have little time for conversion. For that reason, the Blessed Virgin calls for urgent conversion and reconciliation. The invitation to prayer and penance is destined to ward off evil and war and above all to save souls. We are close to the events predicted by the Blessed Virgin. Convert yourselves as quickly as possible. Open your hearts to God. This is a message to all mankind."

In addition to these remarks, one Father Tomislav added the following observations in August, 1983, "They say that, with the realization of the secrets entrusted to them by Our Lady, life in the world will change. Afterwards, men will believe like in ancient times. What will change and how it will change, we don't know, given that the seers don't want to say anything about the secrets."

A further clarification of the character of the initial secrets came from a series of interviews conducted by Janice Connell several years after Father Tomislav's report. In her interview with Marijana, she asked for any additional information about the secrets that Marijana was permitted to disclose. Marijana responded, "The first two secrets will be warnings to the world -- events that will occur before a visible sign is given to humanity. These will happen in my lifetime. Ten days before the first secret and the second secret, I will notify Father Petar Ljubicic. He will pray and fast for seven days, and then he will announce these to the world."

The most troubling aspect of the apparitions at Garabandal and Medjugorje, aside from their marathon duration, is the predestination implied in the warning messages. Unlike previous apparitions, there is no contingency clause to the prophecies such as "Unless men convert..." The visionaries say that they know NOW the dates when each of these events will occur.

For example, at Garabandal Our Lady reportedly stated that the Miracle will occur on a Thursday evening at 8:30 p.m. (Garabandal time) between the 8th and 16th of either March, April or May. The Miracle will coincide with an important event in the Church and on a feast day of a martyr of the Eucharist. Russia will finally be converted after the Miracle occurs.

The Lady has promised to leave a visible sign on the mountain where she first appeared. "This sign will be given for the atheists. You faithful already have signs, and you have become the sign for the atheists. You faithful must not wait for the sign before you convert; convert soon. This time is a time of grace for you. You can never thank God enough for His grace. The time is for deepening your faith and for your conversion. When the sign comes, it will be too late for many."

There will then be three warnings given to the world, and they will be visibile on earth. Mirjana will hear of them beforehand. Three days before one of these warnings, she will advise a priest of her choice (Father Pero Ljubicic), who will then announce what, where, and when the warning is to take place. Mirjana's testimony will be a confirmation of the validity of the apparitions and an incentive for the conversion of the world. After the first warning, the others will follow within a rather brief period of time. After the three warnings, the permanent visible sign will be left on the mountain where The Lady first appeared in Medjugorje. Those who are still alive will have little time for conversion.

The ninth and tenth secrets are grave matters. They are a chastisement for the sins of the world. The punishment is inevitable because we can not expect the conversion of the entire world. The chastisement can be lessened by prayers and penance, but it can not be suppressed entirely. An evil which threatened the world according to the seventh secret, had been eliminated through prayer and fasting. For that reason the Blessed Virgin continues to ask for prayer and fasting. The invitation to prayer and penance is destined to ward off evil and war and above all to save souls. Our Lady says, "You have forgotten that with prayer and fasting you can ward off wars, suspend natural laws."
