NOSTALGIA? YES, IT MATTERS.

Someone on Facebook said "Nostalgia just isn't what it used to be."  Au Contraure!  Don't you get it? Why music is such a passion for me?  I can relive any decade of my life just by pulling tunes out of my collection, or downloading on iTunes if I don't already have it.  I can remember where I was, who I was with, what was going on in my life, all by just listening to a song.

I was a big "Miami Vice" fan.  I loved Sonny Crockett (before Don Johnson went off the deep end and ruined my image of him), but I also loved Glenn Frey and still do!  It pains me to no end that this song was put together for "Miami Vice" and it is not on iTunes! WHAAAA!

So let's go back to the year 1985 .... where were you living; what was your social status; how old were you; did this song bring to mind visions of you and Sonny, or some other love of your life?  See? It's so simple ........ my passion for music will always be insatiable, and for that, I am glad.

PRAYERS AND BLESSINGS

I am going to begin posting various prayers and blessings from Jesus and Mary which can be found on the Holy Love Ministry website.  During this most special season in which we adore and revere the miracle birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, I welcome you to copy these and paste them in a document which you can access or print for your use.  With the Grace and Love of God, I pray for you.

Novena Prayers - Blessings Given by Jesus and Mary

Many prayers and blessings have been received from Heaven. The prayers presented here are only some of the many that have been received and are by no means all inclusive.

Prayer of Consecration to the Truth
(Dictated by Jesus)
"Your words, Lord, are Light and Truth. Your Provision, Your Mercy and Your Love come to me clothed in truth."

"Help me always to live in Your Truth. Assist me in recognizing Satan's deceit in my own thoughts and in the thoughts, words and actions of others. Do not let humility elude me, as I know humility is truth itself. Amen."

Prayer of Submission to Divine Love
"I am the Angel of Mercy and Love—the one who protects the Mission. Praise be to Jesus. ...I am Ezra. I have come to dictate this Prayer of Submission to Divine Love:"

"Dear Jesus, pin my heart next to Your Most Sacred Heart on the Cross. Help me to die to the world as you did. Make my heart impervious to the arrows of slander and false accusations."

"Collect my heart and all its emotions and immerse it in the Flame of Divine Love—the Flame of Your Heart. There, protect me from the allurements of the world. Preserve in my heart all that is pleasing to You, and strike far from it any seduction of Satan." Amen. "Repeat this prayer daily."

Prayer for Holy Love and Humility
Divine Heart of Jesus,
in this present moment help me to live more deeply in Holy Love and Holy Humility. Give me the grace and the courage to look deep into my heart to see where I am failing in these virtues. I know it is only in overcoming these faults I can come deeper into the Chambers of Your Divine Heart. I beg Your strength in perfecting these virtues. Amen. (8/3/02)

Victory Prayer
Jesus: "I have come to dictate to you the Victory Prayer that I promised you on the Feast of the United Hearts:"

"Heavenly Father, I (Name), desire to be Your humble instrument in bringing about the Victory of the United Hearts. I understand that this Victory will be a Victory of Your Divine Will through Holy and Divine Love."

"I wish to be a part of that Victory now, by living in Your Will in this present moment. I embrace the crosses You give me, for I know they are my strength in the journey towards Your Victory in my heart."

"Remind me, Heavenly Father, that Your Victory will be ours, as well. It will be a Triumph of Love. Help me to be Your Love in the world. Amen."

CARRY US JESUS

WHAT'S UP WITH ABBEY AND ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS

Greetings and blessings, Dear Ones!

We've had a very busy time, especially our trip to South Georgia to spend Thanksgiving weekend with my hudpuds family.  My stepchildren, Josh and Jessica, and Josh's girlfriend, Paige, also drove down, so we had a great crew of family.  You could just feel the love all around.  I cherish those times more and more as I age.

My sister-in-law is really terrific at .... well, everything.  She has a kitchen that lacks for nothing, and all the females brought their favorite recipes and we all cooked together which the menfolk smoked the meat on the patio.  There was so much food and there were still leftovers on Sunday!

Monday was a full day of running errands and such.  Even though I really didn't have the drive, I made mysel
f dust both upstairs and down, and I ran the vacuumed the upstairs.  I leave the stairs for huspud usually.  I got home last night at 8:55, just in time to see Sons of Anarchy.  I know what you're thinking, and all I can say is that I am a diverse individual and full of surprises.  Huspud is having carpal tunnel surgery tomorrow (all prayers appreciated!), so he wants me to clean out the corner where the tree is going.  I'm like, "can we just get it out of the attic, along with the decorations, and put them in one of the spare rooms and I'll decorate Saturday?"  He's really worrying about not having the use of his hand, God love him.  He takes such good care of me and our home, and our family!

I thought I'd post one of the songs from our most recent CD purchase.  It is the Tudechi Trucks Band's version of "Midnight In Harlem".  Huspud and I are huge music fans and our tastes are, for the most part, parallel. I do like some of the old stuff from my 20's and 30's that he doesn't get into that much,
but the one thing we love and appreciate are artists who are instrumentally talented, good lyrics and good vocals.

If you don't know, Derek Trucks is the nephew of Butch Trucks, drummer for the Allman Brothers Band.  Susan Tudechi is his wife.  Derek is a tremendously talented guitarist, Susan plays electric guitar and sings, and they have some great backup singers.  The Allman Brothers Band is, I would say, a jam band.  Thus, Derek fit right in when Dickey Betts was booted.  As such, there are great jams midway or ending most of the songs.  The album is called "Everybody's Talkin'".  It is a live album and I highly recommend it.

IS THERE A WAR ON CHRISTMAS

I read this at Being Catholic ... Really, and had to share it.

Is There a War on Christmas?

Is There a War on Christmas?
Our Family Nativity Scene (2011)
I'm sure there would be a lot of people who would debate that there is a war on Christmas (and anything to do with Christianity), but when you have a group assemble an "alternate nativity scene," and an artist depicting our President as the crucified Christ, well it does kind of make one wonder.

Long before my conversion, Christmas was just a gift-giving holiday.  But I was aware that it was celebrated by Christians as the birth of Jesus.  Even as a child, I read the Gospel of Luke around the Christmas season.  I was curious.

During the years of my unbelief, I didn't dare mock Christians or their "holidays," and I don't remember anyone else doing it either.  Except for Mad Magazine.

We live in different times.  It's trendy and hip to make fun of Catholics and Christians even at the highest level of government.

This quote, from Blessed John Henry Newman, sums it up for me:
O my dear Savior ... You are in the sacrifice of the mass, you are in the tabernacle, verily and indeed, in flesh and blood; and the world not only disbelieves, but mocks at this gracious truth ... O accept my homage, my praise, my adoration!  The more men scoff, the more will I believe in you.

THIS DAY'S . . .

This Day's Thought

Faith and works should travel side by side, step answering to step, like the legs of men walking.  First faith, and then works; and then faith again, and then works again- until you can scarcely distinguish which is one and which is the other.

Medjugorje - November 25, 2012 Message to Marija

Our Lady appeared to the visionary Marija on November 25, 2012 and delivered the following message:

"Dear children! In this time of grace, I call all of you to renew prayer. Open yourselves to Holy Confession so that each of you may accept my call with the whole heart. I am with you and I protect you from the ruin of sin, but you must open yourselves to the way of conversion and holiness, that your heart may burn out of love for God. Give Him time and He will give Himself to you and thus, in the will of God you will discover the love and the joy of living. Thank you for having responded to my call."

AN ANSWER FROM GOD

I have a ..... situation.  It's delicate and personal.  But I am obligated to testify at the mystery of a prayer answered.

Someone very close to me has had some problems, deep depression and suffered a lot of losses in the last few years.  I helped them as much as I could over the last two years, even helped them financially, and I had thought that the worst of the storm was over.  Au contraire!  It was yet to come, and although it came to shore slowly, I have a good eye and I warned it away, prayed it away, but it was too strong.  Everybody has to cooperate!  Seems I was the only one who believed that prayer would help.  And, in fact, this individual today said, "I've prayed and prayed; I know what I want and I'm never going to have it."  Oh, how that saddened me.  For anyone to give up on God? You just cannot do that!

This morning, I pleaded with our Merciful and Loving God, with Jesus Christ, with our Holy Mother and for my Patron Saint, St. Therese, to pray that God would answer my petition.

I posted a "broken heart" on Facebook.  But I was looking for a photo that would aptly convey my mood today, and I Googled "blue mood".  First there was one blue rose, and then another, and another!  I wailed, "Oh my precious Saint, you are so magnificent and I love you so much! Thank you, thank you for the roses and thank you for your intercessions! I love you!"

This afternoon, I called and spoke to my friend.  I told them I wanted them in deep counseling beginning next week and low and behold, they said "can we start sooner?"  Sweet Jesus in heaven, what Amazing Grace.

They have a lot of road to cover yet, but the door was opened for me by Almighty God, and I am so, so deeply grateful for His Grace, Love and Mercy.

Please, sometimes it takes a while for prayers to be answered, and sometimes the answer you wanted is not what you wanted; but, if I know anything, I know that God may not give you what you want, but He ALWAYS gives you what you need.

May the love and peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with each of you this Thanksgiving!

Much love,

Abbey

LET'S MAKE THINGS SIMPLE AGAIN

Over the course of time, we made our lives more and more difficult, and we started losing touch with who we really are and what we really need.

So let’s get back to the basics, shall we?  Let’s make things simple again.  It’s easy.  Here are some ways to do just that:

  1. Don’t try to read other people’s minds.  Don’t make other people try to read yours.  Communicate.
  2. Be polite, but don’t try to be friends with everyone around you.  Instead, spend time nurturing your relationships with the people who matter most to you.
  3. Your health is your life, keep up with it.  Get an annual physical check-up.
  4. Live below your means.  Don’t buy stuff you don’t need.  Always sleep on big purchases.  Create a budget and savings plan and stick to both of them.
  5. Get enough sleep every night.  An exhausted mind is rarely productive.
  6.  Get up 30 minutes earlier so you don’t have to rush around like a mad man.  That 30 minutes will help you avoid speeding tickets, tardiness, and other unnecessary headaches.
  7. Get off your high horse, talk it out, shake hands or hug, and move on.
  8. Don’t waste your time on jealously.  The only person you’re competing against is yourself.
  9. Surround yourself with people who fill your gaps.  Let them do the stuff they’re better at so you can do the stuff you’re better at.
  10. Organize your living space and working space.
  11. Get rid of stuff you don’t use.
  12. Ask someone if you aren’t sure.
  13. Spend a little time now learning a time-saving trick or shortcut that you can use over and over again in the future.
  14. Don’t try to please everyone.  Just do what you know is right.
  15. Don’t drink alcohol or consume recreational drugs when you’re mad or sad.  Take a jog instead.
  16. Be sure to pay your bills on time.
  17. Fill up your gas tank on the way home, not in the morning when you’re in a hurry.
  18. Use technology to automate tasks.
  19. Handle important two-minute tasks immediately.
  20. Relocate closer to your place of employment.
  21. Don’t steal.
  22. Always be honest with yourself and others.
  23. Say “I love you” to your loved ones as often as possible.
  24. Single-task.  Do one thing at a time and give it all you got.
  25. Finish one project before you start another.
  26. Be yourself.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

O my God, Trinity whom I adore, help me forget myself entirely so to establish myself in you, unmovable and peaceful as if my soul were already in eternity. May nothing be able to trouble my peace or make me leave you, O my unchanging God, but may each minute bring me more deeply into your mystery! Grant my soul peace. Make it your heaven, your beloved dwelling and the place of your rest. May I never abandon you there, but may I be there, whole and entire, completely vigilant in my faith, entirely adoring, and wholly given over to your creative action.

ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS

Novena to St. Therese: In Thanksgiving

Novena to St. Therese: In Thanksgiving

Novena to St. Therese: In Thanksgiving
O Glorious St. Therese of the Child Jesus!
Our beloved heavenly patron,
our beloved guide.
Shower upon this community
with abundance of roses.
Make this your mission parish.
O Patroness of the Missions!
That the sweet frangrance of your roses,
may bring everyone to know and love,
The Divine Child Jesus
whom you have loved so much.
In His Holy presence,
consecrate our lives
so that we too may welcome one another,
like you have welcomed the Child Jesus.
Let your gentleness and kindness,
fill the emptiness of our hearts.
Let your missionary zeal and prayers,
become our daily work so that we, too,
may become a beautiful rose,
to all and everyone.
O Little Flower of Jesus,
ask God today to grant the favors
I now place with confidence in your hands ...
(pause for silent intention)
St. Therese, help me to always believe,
as you did,
in God's great love for me,
so that I might imitate your "Little Way,"
each and every day.
JESUS, MARY, I LOVE YOU, SAVE SOULS.
ST. THERESE, PRAY FOR US!

SONG OF THE DAY AND WHAT'S UP WITH ABBEY

I've tried to publish something every day, but as I've watched viewers rise and fall and now they are way up again, I long to be a good writer, one who draws interest.  Is my daily life interesting?  Not really, except to me and those in my life.  My daughter has three growing children - two in adolescence and one tween - so she is so busy that I don't ever see her. But, she called the other night and asked if I'd like to see the "Twilight Marathon" this last Thursday.  It was a twelve hour event, starting with the first movie and then the second, and so forth, each following the book very closely.  The last episode began at 10:00pm and was the premiere of second half of the final book.  I can the author's writing is great because each movie had scenes exactly as I had envisioned them.  I know, vampires and such, but people, it is only fiction and a love story that was pretty amazing.

I was completely washed out yesterday. I cannot recall when I was out or even up at midnight. I didn't get home until 12:15am and it was difficult to unwind and go to sleep. With all my maladies, my bones were hurting all over from sitting in that theater for 12 hours - well, we had 15 minute breaks between movies, but still, the bulk of time was sitting in a theater seat.

Nevertheless, it was time with my baby girl and it was so much fun; she's fun, she's like me! Ha!  Really, we are so much alike and I am honored when someone sees us together and says to her "you look like your mother" because I have always thought she looked like her father. Compliment taken and appreciated.

I signed up for "Read the Catechism in One Year" so I will be getting daily emails with the sections to read. I'm totally excited about this endeavor and ask for prayers that I can hang with it for a year! I love God and Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit, which are are all One. My days are filled with silent prayers as I go about my business at home during the week, when I am home alone much of the time.  I thirst for inspiration, spiritually and in my daily life where there are things that need to be done and I cannot muster any enthusiasm to do them. Lord, hear my prayer ......

I have a grade school friend who is battling colon cancer (please pray for Mike), and his wife posted this song today. I wanted to repost it here, as it is something I think everyone can relate to - "I need a miracle".

21 HABITS OF HAPPY PEOPLE

“Happiness is a habit – cultivate it.” ~ Elbert Hubbar

Happiness is one aspiration all people share. No one wants to be sad and depressed.

We’ve all seen people who are always happy – even amidst agonizing life trials. I’m not saying happy people don’t feel grief, sorrow or sadness; they just don’t let it overtake their life. The following are 21 things happy people make a habit of doing:

1. Appreciate Life
Be thankful that you woke up alive each morning. Develop a childlike sense of wonder towards life. Focus on the beauty of every living thing. Make the most of each day. Don’t take anything for granted. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

2. Choose Friends Wisely
Surround yourself with happy, positive people who share your values and goals. Friends that have the same ethics as you will encourage you to achieve your dreams. They help you to feel good about yourself. They are there to lend a helping hand when needed.

3. Be Considerate
Accept others for who they are as well as where they are in life. Respect them for who they are. Touch them with a kind and generous spirit. Help when you are able, without trying to change the other person. Try to brighten the day of everyone you come into contact with.

4. Learn Continuously
Keep up to date with the latest news regarding your career and hobbies. Try new and daring things that has sparked your interest – such as dancing, skiing, surfing or sky-diving.

5. Creative Problem Solving
Don’t wallow in self-pity. As soon as you face a challenge get busy finding a solution. Don’t let the set backs affect your mood, instead see each new obstacle you face as an opportunity to make a positive change. Learn to trust your gut instincts – it’s almost always right.

6. Do What They Love
Some statistics show that 80% of people dislike their jobs! No wonder there’s so many unhappy people running around. We spend a great deal of our life working. Choose a career that you enjoy – the extra money of a job you detest isn’t worth it. Make time to enjoy your hobbies and pursue special interests.

7. Enjoy Life
Take the time to see the beauty around you. There’s more to life than work. Take time to smell the roses, watch a sunset or sunrise with a loved one, take a walk along the seashore, hike in the woods etc. Learn to live in the present moment and cherish it. Don’t live in the past or the future.

8. Laugh
Don’t take yourself – or life to seriously. You can find humor in just about any situation. Laugh at yourself – no one’s perfect. When appropriate laugh and make light of the circumstances. (Naturally there are times that you should be serious as it would be improper to laugh.)

9. Forgive
Holding a grudge will hurt no one but you. Forgive others for your own peace of mind. When you make a mistake – own up to it – learn from it – and FORGIVE yourself.

10. Gratitude
Develop an attitude of gratitude. Count your blessings; All of them – even the things that seem trivial. Be grateful for your home, your work and most importantly your family and friends. Take the time to tell them that you are happy they are in your life.

11. Invest in Relationships
Always make sure your loved ones know you love them even in times of conflict. Nurture and grow your relationships with your family and friends by making the time to spend with them. Don’t break your promises to them. Be supportive.

12. Keep Their Word
Honesty is the best policy. Every action and decision you make should be based on honesty. Be honest with yourself and with your loved ones.

13. Meditate
Meditation gives your very active brain a rest. When it’s rested you will have more energy and function at a higher level. Types of meditation include yoga, hypnosis, relaxation tapes, affirmations, visualization or just sitting in complete silence. Find something you enjoy and make the time to practice daily.

14. Mind Their Own Business
Concentrate on creating your life the way you want it. Take care of you and your family. Don’t get overly concerned with what other people are doing or saying. Don’t get caught up with gossip or name calling. Don’t judge. Everyone has a right to live their own life the way they want to – including you.

15. Optimism
See the glass as half full. Find the positive side of any given situation. It’s there – even though it may be hard to find. Know that everything happens for a reason, even though you may never know what the reason is. Steer clear of negative thoughts. If a negative thought creeps in – replace it with a positive thought.

16. Love Unconditionally
Accept others for who they are. You don’t put limitations on your love. Even though you may not always like the actions of your loved ones – you continue to love them.

17. Persistence
Never give up. Face each new challenge with the attitude that it will bring you one step closer to your goal. You will never fail, as long as you never give up. Focus on what you want, learn the required skills, make a plan to succeed and take action. We are always happiest while pursuing something of value to us.

18. Be Proactive
Accept what can not be changed. Happy people don’t waste energy on circumstances beyond their control. Accept your limitations as a human being. Determine how you can take control by creating the outcome you desire – rather than waiting to respond.

19. Self Care
Take care of your mind, body and health. Get regular medical check ups. Eat healthy and work out. Get plenty of rest. Drink lots of water. Exercise your mind by continually energizing it with interesting and exciting challenges.

20. Self Confidence
Don’t try to be someone that you’re not. After all no one likes a phony. Determine who you are in the inside – your own personal likes and dislikes. Be confident in who you are. Do the best you can and don’t second guess yourself.

21. Take Responsibility
Happy people know and understand that they are 100% responsible for their life. They take responsibility for their moods, attitude, thoughts, feelings, actions and words. They are the first to admit when they’ve made a mistake.

Begin today by taking responsibility for your happiness. Work on developing these habits as you own. The more you incorporate the above habits into your daily lifestyle – the happier you will be.

Most of all: BE TRUE TO YOURSELF

SONG OF THE DAY

I was quite young, barely 18 and I had taken off to live Los Angeles, CA, a decision I made the first time I ever visited there as a young girl.  I lived there in the decade of the 70's. Music was very big in L.A., at least what I define as "real music", not that crap we hear today. I was in the middle of hog heaven since I had been having a love affair with music that began when I was a young girl.  Living there, experiencing all the new music that flowed everywhere, it was such an amazing time in my life that I won't ever forget.

Neil Young has been around a while. Today is Neil's 67th birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NEIL! He wrote this song as a young man and now, as he grows old like me, I wonder if he looks back and sees the irony of writing such a tune. This song will live on and on, of that I am sure.

BACK TO WHERE IT BEGAN

You know, when I first began to blog, I posted a lot of music.  Music has been the great love of my life.  I thank God every day for music, for it brings me peace, gives me energy when its time to clean house, provokes memories of times gone by ............ I always wanted to be a singer in a band.  When I lived in Los Angeles, if not for my shyness singing in front of others, I could have had that chance.  Water under the bridge about 35 years ago. I don't have the same voice and I'm too old. But if you walk in my house and the music is cranked up, you're probably going to find me dancing somewhere as I perform my tasks.

This is my Song of The Day ...........

ALL SOUL'S (A DAY LATE) AND THE CHURCH'S VIEW ON PURGATORY

I am a day late, but nevertheless, this is a MUST READ from EWTN.
~*~

By purgatory, no more is meant by Catholics than a middle state of souls, viz. of purgation from sin by temporary chastisements, or a punishment of some sin inflicted after death, which is not eternal. As to the place, manner, or kind of these sufferings, nothing has been defined by the church; and all who with Dr. Deacon except against this doctrine, on account of the circumstance of a material fire, quarrel about a mere scholastic question in which a person is at liberty to choose either side. This doctrine of a state of temporary punishment after death for some sins is interwoven with the fundamental articles of the Christian religion. For, as eternal torments are the portion of all souls which depart this life under the guilt of mortal sin, and everlasting bliss of those who die in the state of grace, so it is an obvious consequence that among the latter many souls may be defiled with lesser stains, and cannot enter immediately into the joy of the Lord. Repentance may be sincere, though something be wanting to its perfection; some part of the debt which the penitent owes to the divine justice may remain uncancelled, as appears from several instances mentioned in the holy scriptures, as of David, of the Israelites in the wilderness, of Moses and Aaron, and of the prophet slain by a lion, which debt is to be satisfied for either in this life or in the next. Certainly, some sins are venial, which deserve not eternal death; yet, if not effaced by condign penance in this world, must be punished in the next. Every wound is not mortal; nor does every small offence totally destroy friendship. The scriptures frequently mention these venial sins, from which ordinarily the just are not exempt, who certainly would not be just if these lesser sins, into which men easily fall by surprise, destroyed grace in them, or if they fell from charity. Yet the smallest sin excludes a soul from heaven so long as it is not blotted out. Nothing which is not perfectly pure and spotless can stand before God, who is infinite purity and sanctity, and cannot bear the sight of the least iniquity. Whence it is said of heaven, "There shall in no wise enter into it anything defiled." It is the great employment of all the saints or pious persons here below by rigorous self-examination to try their actions and thoughts, and narrowly to look into all the doublings and recesses of their hearts; continually to accuse and judge themselves, and by daily tears of compunction, works of penance, and the use of the sacraments, to correct all secret disorders, and wipe away all filth which their affections may contract. Yet who is there who keeps so constant a guard upon his heart and whole conduct as to avoid all insensible self-deceptions? Who is there upon whose heart no inordinate attachments steal; into whose actions no sloth, remissness, or some other irregularity ever insinuates itself? Or whose compunction and penance is so humble and clear-sighted, so fervent and perfect, that no lurking disorder of his whole life escapes him, and is not perfectly washed away by the sacred blood of Christ, applied by these means or conditions to the soul? Who has perfectly subdued and regulated all his passions, and grounded his heart in perfect humility, meekness, charity, piety, and all other virtues, so as to bear the image of God in himself, or to be holy and perfect, even as he is, without spot? Perhaps scarce in any moment of our lives is our intention or motive so fervent, and so pure or exempt from the least imperceptible sinister influence and mixture of sloth, self-complacency, or other inordinate affection or passion; and all other ingredients or circumstances of our action so perfect and holy, as to be entirely without failure in the eyes of God, which nothing can escape. Assiduous conversation with heaven, constant watchfulness, self-denial, and a great purity of heart, with the assistance of an extraordinary grace, give the saints a wonderful light to discover and correct the irregularities of their affections. Yet it is only by the fervent spirit and practice of penance that they can be purified in the sight of God.

MEDJUGORJE - NOVEMBER 2, 2012 APPARITION

November 2, 2012 Apparition

Our Lady appeared to the Medjugorje visionary Mirjana Soldo today, November 2nd, 2012, and delivered the following message:

"Dear children; as a mother I implore you to persevere as my apostles. I am praying to my Son to give you Divine wisdom and strength. I am praying that you may discern everything around you according to God's truth and to strongly resist everything that wants to distance you from my Son. I am praying that you may witness the love of the Heavenly Father according to my Son. My children, great grace has been given to you to be witnesses of God's love. Do not take the given responsibility lightly. Do not sadden my motherly heart. As a mother I desire to rely on my children, on my apostles. Through fasting and prayer you are opening the way for me to pray to my Son for Him to be beside you and for His name to be holy through you. Pray for the

THERE'S A PLACE FOR US

"Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed." -Wisdom 3:5

There is both a quantity and quality of fruit that God expects us to produce in our earthly life (see Mt 21:33ff; Lk 13:6-9; Jn 15:1ff; 15:16). Our fruit of personal holiness and "good works" (Rv 14:13) "must endure" (Jn 15:16).

God is much more than "the Man upstairs" Who is our Friend. He is also our Judge, Who "will test the quality of each man's" good works and holiness (see 1 Cor 3:13). Some of the dead who die in the Lord will not have lived a life as fruitful as God expected. God in His mercy will still grant them eternal life. Thus, these deceased folks "will suffer loss," yet "will be saved, but only as one fleeing through fire" (1 Cor 3:15).

There is a degree of "holiness without which no one can see the Lord" (Heb 12:14). What happens with the above folks who are granted eternal life yet are lacking in the enduring fruit and holiness God requires? Jesus has gone to "prepare a place" for us (Jn 14:2). As the above Scriptures indicate, He also has to prepare us for the place.

If we have died in Christ, but aren't yet prepared for His place (see Heb 12:14), then Jesus has to finish the job before He can take us into the heavenly feast. The Catholic Church, guided by the Holy Spirit (Jn 16:13), has taught that the above Scriptures and other truths indicate the existence of a "place" of purification (see Mal 3:2-3) we call purgatory. In purgatory, the souls of those who have not prepared themselves sufficiently in their time on earth are purified for the awesome privilege of seeing God face to face. Since they are fellow members of the body of Christ (Lk 20:38), we need them and they need us (1 Cor 12:21ff). Let us help them with our prayers.

Prayer: Father, may I grow daily in holiness now rather than later. I pray for the souls of those in purgatory to be speedily purified.

Promise: "No one who comes will I ever reject." -Jn 6:37

Praise: Praise the Father of love, risen Savior, and the Spirit of truth!

THIS DAY'S ....

This Day's Thought

The light of God surrounds me;
The love of God enfolds me;
The power of God protects me;
The presence of God watches over me.
Wherever I am, God is.

This Day's Verse

If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
