MINUTE MEDITIONS

We're at the lake at my bestie's house for the weekend, but still, I am drawn to stop a minute and give back.  Have a blessed weekend!

Deepest Human Desire

Saint Augustine wrote that the deepest human desire is to look upon one who looks back in love. This is the gift God gives us from the beginning, but little by little, in increments and in longing. The gift will be fulfilled perfectly in heaven.

OUR LADY OF MEDJUGORJE MESSAGES

July 2, 2011

Our Lady Queen of Peace of Medjugorje’s July 2, 2011 Message

Given to Mirjana on the Day for Non-Believers

“Dear children; today I call you to a difficult and painful step for your unity with my Son. I call you to complete admission and confession of sins, to purification. An impure heart cannot be in my Son and with my Son. An impure heart cannot give the fruit of love and unity. An impure heart cannot do correct and just things; it is not an example of the beauty of God’s love to those who surround it and to those who have not come to know that love. You, my children, are gathering around me full of enthusiasm, desire and expectations, and I implore the Good Father to, through the Holy Spirit, put my Son – faith, into your purified hearts. My children, obey me, set out with me.”

As Our Lady was leaving, to Her left She showed darkness and to Her right a Cross in golden light.

It was stated that Mirjana believes that Our Lady was showing the difference between a clean heart and an unclean heart. Mirjana also stated that Our Lady blessed all our religious objects and prayed for priests.

July 25, 2011

"Dear children! May this time be for you a time of prayer and silence. Rest your body and spirit, may they be in God’s love. Permit me, little children, to lead you, open your hearts to the Holy Spirit so that all the good that is in you may blossom and bear fruit one hundred fold. Begin and end the day with prayer with the heart. Thank you for having responded to my call."

POSITIVE THOUGHTS

The Way of Change

Emotion is the energy that moves you. When you find your life stuck in a pattern-repeatedly reacting to the same person, allergen, food or time of day...or any other life experience...in a negative or painful way-it's a sign that the energy moving you is motivated by survival and protection rather than your present circumstances.

The LifeLine Law of Transformation and Creation states: Emotions transform energy; energy creates movement; movement is change; and change is the essence of life. More than the fear of death, it's the fear of change that keeps people stuck in a cycle of self-destruction and self-defeat. When you're able to embrace change, follow your heart, and go with the flow, you're emotionally flowing through life, and life is emotionally flowing through you.

Are you ready to acknowledge how powerful you really are?

You're already pure love, beautiful, special, accepting, forgiving, grateful, compassionate, kind, intelligent, successful, funny, creative, joyous, wonderful, fantastic, passionate, humble, confident, and peaceful beyond measure. This is your truth. You'll now realize with your "real eyes" that when you're feeling anything but powerful, beautiful, and special, it's your subconscious mind urging you to choose love.

Choose love. Choose to be an ambassador of light in a world that so sorely needs a way out of the darkness of pain, shame, guilt, and fear.

WARREN BUFFETT ON DEBT CEILING

Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes I've heard in all this drama about the debt ceiling:

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election."

I think this is a fine notion, indeed!

Jesuit University Professor Proposed Theology Accepting Gay ‘Marriage’

A Cardinal Newman Society member alerted us to this, in light of the U.S. bishops’ stand against same-sex marriage:

Jesuit, Catholic Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics website hosts an article from 2004 co-written by a Santa Clara professor of religious studies which proposes a theology that would accept same-sex “marriage.” The article is titled “Gay Marriage: Theological and Moral Arguments.”

Fred Parrella, currently listed on Santa Clara University’s faculty page for the Religious Studies department, co-wrote the article with Gerald Coleman.

From the article:

Let me share a brief personal note: I have been teaching Theology of Marriage at Santa Clara since 1983. In every class, for the past 20 odd years, I have invited a gay former student, Lee FitzGerald, to speak on gay relationships. My intent was two-fold: first to invite students into dialogue with people different from themselves; second, to work to eliminate, in whatever small way I could, homophobic attitudes on our campus and in our community. Lee’s classes over the years have been uniformly successful and very worthwhile. The attitudes of Santa Clara students have evolved significantly in the last two decades vis à vis gay and lesbian relationships.

My purpose today is not to support or defend gay and lesbian marriages—indeed, many gays and lesbians do not want to marry—but simply suggest a theological approach that might open up the possibility for greater Christian acceptance of, and ecclesiastical approval for, same sex unions. Let me begin by suggesting a tentative definition of marriage, even if such a definition is, as my dear friend Ted Mackin said, “an elusive enterprise. Even the married find it so.” Marriage is an unconditional, life-long commitment between two persons who promise to share all of life and love, home and hearth, body and soul; marriage necessarily involves both the fullest of communication, the deepest of understanding, and the strongest of personal loyalty and trust between two people. …

In this unconditional relationship, the quality of relation is unexceptional—the good husband and father will also be the good friend, priest, son, or daughter; the mediocre man or woman will be mediocre in all of his/her relations. This is just as true if the person is gay, lesbian, or straight. …

My question is this: In the ideal order, what would prevent this sacramental understanding of marriage from being applied to two persons of the same sex in the same way these words can be spoken about a man and woman? One need not use the word “marriage,” but the reality is the same. A gay or lesbian orientation is not a matter of choice but simply the way an individual is. A person is born gay and lesbian and grows up this way; it is not a matter of decision, one possibility among others for the mature individual. …

The Catholic theologian Rosemary Haughton suggests that perhaps the most important thing about a family is not the blood relationship, but the fact that it is a community, a group of people sharing their lives.” …

In this context, then, the possibility exists for a broader and more inclusive understanding of marriage and family. Such an understanding may ultimately include same sex relationships. The norm ought not to be gender but the quality or unconditional love and commitment that exists between two people. If Jesus as God’s face among us could reach out to the Samaritan woman at the well and promise her living water, I cannot imagine a God who would not be pleased by deep and intense love and commitment in any of its forms. For Jesus reveals a God who wants more than obedience to the law but a God who wants nothing less than our whole hearts and minds and souls. All that matters to God is what is in the hearts and souls that God has given to us and that we seek to give to one another.
Among Parrella’s pastoral interests listed on his Santa Clara faculty profile is “the theology of marriage.” His courses include Catholic Theology: Foundations and Theology of Marriage.

JUST CALL ME "DEAR ABBEY"

Can You Find the Perfect Mate? Put the Law of Attraction in action!

In order to find what you are calling the “perfect mate,” you must first be the perfect mate. In other words, you must consistently emit a Vibrational signal that matches the mate you desire. The not-so-perfect relationships that you have observed, or lived, have given you wonderful opportunities to decide and fine-tune the kind of relationship you would like to have. And so, you have only to think about those wanted characteristics of a relationship in order to train your own Vibration into one that matches your desire.

When you point out what you do not like in relationships, or remember unpleasant events from past relationships, or even watch movies where people are mistreating one another, you are unwittingly training your Vibration away from your desired relationship. And you simply cannot get there from there.
You cannot get the relationship of your dreams when your chronic thoughts about relationships feel lonely or angry or worried or disappointed. But as you look for things you appreciate in yourself and others—as you make lists of positive aspects of past and present relationships—you train your Vibrational offering to match the Vibration of your desires, and your “perfect mate” must then come. It is Law.

SOUTHERN LIVING

THINGS I HAVE LEARNED LIVING IN THE SOUTH...

A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road.

There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 of them live in the South.

There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 of them live in the South, plus a couple no one's seen before.

If it grows, it'll stick ya. If it crawls, it'll bite cha.

Onced and Twiced are words.

It is not a shopping cart, it is a buggy!

Jawl-P? Means Did y'all go to the bathroom?

People actually grow, eat and like okra.

Fixinto is one word. It means I'm fixing to do that (OR I am going to to that momentarily!)

There is no such thing as lunch. There is only dinner and then there is supper.

Iced tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar. It is referred to as the Wine of the South.

Backwards and forwards means I know everything about you.

The word jeet is actually a phrase meaning 'Did you eat?'

You don't have to wear a watch, because it doesn't matter what time it is, you work until you're done or it's too dark to see.

You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH em.

Ya'll is singular; All ya'll is plural.

You measure distance in minutes.

You switch from heat to A/C in the same day.

All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect, or animal.

You know what a DAWG is. (It's my husband)

You carry jumper cables in your car - for your OWN car.

You only own five spices: salt, pepper, mustard, Tabasco and ketchup.

The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local high school sports and motor sports, and gossip.

You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday (i.e., a redneck)

You find 100 degrees Fahrenheit a bit warm.

You know what a hissy fit is.

Going to Wal-Mart is a favorite pastime known as goin Wal-Martin' or off to Wally World.

You describe the first cool snap (below 70 degrees) as good beef stew or chili weather.

Fried catfish is the other white meat.

POSITIVE THOUGHTS

Count Your Blessings

Count your blessings at the end of every day – don’t focus on the problems you’ve faced that day; rather, think of all the good things that happened and the happiness they gave you.

Think of others rather than yourself – when you do things, even the smallest favors, for other people who mean something to you, you feel good about yourself.

Be proactive rather than reactive – instead of fretting over a problem and letting it stress you out, focus on how to resolve quickly and effectively. When your mind is busy trying to find a solution, you stop feeling sorry for yourself and start thinking positively.

Don’t allow your mind to remain idle – it may be clichéd, but it’s also true that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. So stay busy and keep doing something or the other to prevent negative thoughts from creeping in.

Stop negative thoughts before they form completely – if you find yourself becoming depressed because your mind is taking a negative bent, stop those thoughts in their tracks and start consciously thinking of positive things.

Spend time with people who love you and make you feel good about yourself – quality relationships make life worth living.

Anytime you feel that the weight of your burden is hard to bear, talk to a friend or someone with a sympathetic ear – even if they cannot do anything to help you out, just the fact that you have someone on your side is uplifting enough.
And finally, look around you before you start to feel sorry for yourself – there are people in situations that are a hundred times worse than yours, yet they manage to get through each day.

TODAY'S READINGS - 17th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Reading 1 (1 Kgs 3:5, 7-12)
The LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night.
God said, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.”
Solomon answered:
“O LORD, my God, you have made me, your servant, king
to succeed my father David;
but I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act.
I serve you in the midst of the people whom you have chosen,
a people so vast that it cannot be numbered or counted.
Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart
to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong.
For who is able to govern this vast people of yours?”

The LORD was pleased that Solomon made this request.
So God said to him:
“Because you have asked for this—
not for a long life for yourself,
nor for riches,
nor for the life of your enemies,
but for understanding so that you may know what is right—
I do as you requested.
I give you a heart so wise and understanding
that there has never been anyone like you up to now,
and after you there will come no one to equal you.”

Responsorial Psalm 119:57, 72, 76-77, 127-128, 129-130
R. (97a) Lord, I love your commands.
I have said, O LORD, that my part
is to keep your words.
The law of your mouth is to me more precious
than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
R. Lord, I love your commands.

Let your kindness comfort me
according to your promise to your servants.
Let your compassion come to me that I may live,
for your law is my delight.
R. Lord, I love your commands.

For I love your command
more than gold, however fine.
For in all your precepts I go forward;
every false way I hate.
R. Lord, I love your commands.

Wonderful are your decrees;
therefore I observe them.
The revelation of your words sheds light,
giving understanding to the simple.
R. Lord, I love your commands.

Reading II (Rom 8:28-30)
Brothers and sisters:
We know that all things work for good for those who love God,
who are called according to his purpose.
For those he foreknew he also predestined
to be conformed to the image of his Son,
so that he might be the firstborn
among many brothers and sisters.
And those he predestined he also called;
and those he called he also justified;
and those he justified he also glorified.

Gospel (Mt 13:44-52 or 13:44-46)
Jesus said to his disciples:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field,
which a person finds and hides again,
and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant
searching for fine pearls.
When he finds a pearl of great price,
he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea,
which collects fish of every kind.
When it is full they haul it ashore
and sit down to put what is good into buckets.
What is bad they throw away.
Thus it will be at the end of the age.
The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous
and throw them into the fiery furnace,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.

“Do you understand all these things?”
They answered, “Yes.”
And he replied,
“Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven
is like the head of a household
who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.”

TRUTH: OBAMA DOES NOT WALK ON WATER! WAKE UP AMERICA!

Obama, Holder Busted in Gunwalker Cover-up
by Roger Hedgecock
07/22/2011

Kenneth Melson was supposed to be the fall guy, the sacrificial lamb, the guy thrown under the bus to protect President Obama. Melson was "expected" to resign. He refused.

Instead, Melson, acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has turned whistle-blower and all hell is about to explode over the operation dubbed by Obama's Justice Department "Fast and Furious" but now known as the Gunwalker scandal.

It looks like the Obama regime financed (partly with "stimulus" funds) an $80 million program to allow straw buyers to purchase hundreds of weapons from federally licensed gun shops in Southwest states, over the objection of the shop owners, and then allowed these weapons to "walk" across the Mexican border into the waiting arms of the murderous Mexican drug cartels.

At first, Justice Department spokesmen said it was a "sting gone wrong." Then, when many pointed out that the ATF had no jurisdiction to follow the guns across the border to make arrests, the cover story fell apart.

Melson has told congressional investigators that there is a "smoking gun" internal memo withheld from Congress indicating that "political appointees" (Obama's) in the Justice Department were involved. This memo and other documents are being withheld from Congress as part of a cover-up.

Melson has also told Congressional investigators that affidavits prepared by Justice Department lawyers to support wiretaps in the operation were "inconsistent" with public statements by Justice Department officials, meaning that the operation, it's existence at first denied by the Justice Department, was detailed months before to a court in sworn statements by the same Justice Department.

Attorney General Eric Holder testified at a congressional hearing in March 2011 that he had just learned of the Fast and Furious operation "a few weeks ago." However, Holder spoke at a joint Mexico-U.S. law enforcement conference in Mexico in April 2009, describing the operation and touting it as a way to combat the growing power of the Mexican drug cartels.

The explosive revelations continued. Melson told the investigators that during operation Fast and Furious, guns were bought by and sold to individuals connected with the Mexican cartels who were also paid informants for the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration. American taxpayers are funding all sides of this war.

When the Mexican government captured the third-ranking leader of the Los Zetas cartel, Jesus Enrique Rejon Aguilar , he bragged that the cartel's guns were bought in the U.S. and that all the cartels were buying guns from the U.S. government.

The Mexicans are furious about all this. The Mexican congress has opened an investigation under the assumption that Obama's operation was an act of war on Mexico. More than 200 Mexican law enforcement and military personnel have been killed in the last year by guns traced back to Gunwalker.

These guns, traced by serial number, have tragically also turned up at the scene of the murder of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata by cartel gunmen.

The Mexican cartels get weapons from Mexican Army deserters, from leftist guerrilla groups in South America, and from international gun smugglers. Under Obama, they also got weapons from U.S. gun shops. We now know how this was done, in a story first told by CBS News. The question is why?

The answer fits a pattern described by then-Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel of never letting a crisis go to waste if it can advance the agenda.

The crisis was the civil war between the Mexican government and the drug cartels, with violence spilling over into American cities. Obama, Janet Napolitano , and even Hillary Clinton, blamed this border violence on the easy availability of guns in U.S. gun shops and gun shows along the border. The agenda was gun control. Gun control laws needed to be strengthened to protect the lives of innocent Mexicans and Americans.

When statistics designed to show the cartels were armed primarily from American sources were proven false, the crisis had to be goosed a little. Operation Fast and Furious became the funnel for a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Despite all these revelations of Obama regime complicity in this gunrunning operation, the gun control agenda lives on.

Just last Monday, the Justice Department announced that all gun shops in four Southwest states will have to report to the ATF purchases of two or more of some types of rifles by the same person in a five-day span. With a straight face, a Justice Department spokesman described this as an effort to stem the illicit flow of weapons into Mexico.

Rep. Lamar Smith (R.-Tex.) called this new requirement the "height of hypocrisy ... when the administration knowingly and intentionally allowed guns to be trafficked into Mexico." Smith concluded, "Limiting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens is not going to solve the problem." Thank you Congressman Smith.

Congratulations Ken Melson. Thank you for telling the truth. Without you, the American people might believe that more gun control is the answer. With your statements, we now know that controlling the corruption of the Justice Department is the answer.

Isn't it time someone asked the age-old question, "What did the President know, and when did he know it?"

ABBEY IS LISTENING TO ......

I want to get back to some of the regular posts that I used to make, and one being "Abbey Is Listening To", being my favorite because of my deep love of music.

"Abbey Road" was the brain child of The Beatles, and since my love of them, together and separately, has never waned, I chose it as a name for my blog.  For we are all on our own road, and everything on THIS blog is a part of my road through life.

I was so shocked that Christmas in 1964 when my sister and received not just a phonograph (for you youngsters, here's a relatively similar photo), but we had received three Beatles albums.  It surprised us because mom and dad were so straight-laced and they hated the long hair, which you know that by today's standards isn't long at all.  Anyway, we played those records over and over and over, and when we heard a new one was coming out, we saved our allowances to be able to have it.  I have all of The Beatles works, but "Abbey Road" is one of the finest.  Sgt. Pepper is one of the finest.  They're all genius and fine.

I cried when John Lennon was killed.  I loved John from afar, and although he seemed radical at the time, he seems more benign now.  HOWEVER, John Lennon was a genius and one can only wonder what contributions he would have made to both music and the world had he lived.

If you have "Abbey Road", put it on today and go back in time and embrace those memories of "oh, I was at so-in-so when I first heart that song", etc.

Ongoing Conversion

The goal of evangelization is ongoing conversion. We ourselves, of course, cannot convert anyone—even ourselves. Only the Holy Spirit can change the hearts and minds of people.

— from John Paul II and the New Evangelization

Recall all of the Blessed Mother's messages to the visionaries where she pleads with everyone to "come to conversion"?  You can only do this by opening your heart to the Holy Spirit.  I am a perfect example of how much one person's heart and mind can change once the Holy Spirit came into my mind, heart and body.  Thanks be to God!

THE MARIAN APPARITIONS, IF YOU THIRST FOR MORE

I'm going to give you some information for Wikipedia, which is probably the most non-prejudicial writing, sticking basically to facts of the phenomena, the Church's belief, etc.  This is something you can pull up and read in its entirety HERE. (annotated subtext provided at this site, as well.)  I, for one, believe in the apparitions of the Blessed Mother, and in her messages from Heaven.  They speak undeniably according to The Word of God.  And then I'm back to that "you have nothing to lose; wouldn't rather believe there is and find out you were right, than to believe there is no God [apparitions of the Virgin Mary] and find out there is, but you have been cast in to the firery pit?"

I have personally sought out as much information as I possibly could, including videos of the visionaries as the apparition occurs.  I cannot look at their faces, the calm and serene, the glow in their eyes, and NOT believe that they are gazing at our Heavenly Mother.  Oh, how I wish I could see her!  Now read up and post your questions and observations in the comments section.

Dear Ones, have a blessed day!!

Apparitions and appearances

A photostatic copy of a page from Ilustração Portuguesa, October 29, 1917, showing the crowd looking at the miracle of the sun during the Fátima apparitions (attributed to the Virgin Mary)The term "appearance" has been used in different apparitions within a wide range of contexts and experiences. And its use has been different with respect to Marian apparitions and visions of Jesus Christ.

In some apparitions such as Our Lady of Lourdes or Our Lady of Fátima an actual vision is reported, fully resembling that of a person being present. In some of these reports the viewers (at times children) do not initially report that they saw the Virgin Mary, but that they saw "a Lady" (often but not always dressed in white) and had a conversation with her. In these cases the viewers report experiences that resemble the visual and verbal interaction with a person present at the site of the apparition. In most cases, there are no clear indications as to the auditory nature of the experience, i.e. whether the viewers heard the voices via airwaves or an "interior" or subjective sense of communication. Yet, the 1973 messages of Our Lady of Akita, which were approved at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1988 by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (later Pope Benedict XVI) are due to Sister Agnes Katsuko Sasagawa who had been totally deaf before 1973 (and remained deaf until 1982 when she was cured during Sunday Mass as foretold in her messages), suggesting means of communication other than airwaves.

In some apparitions just an image is reported, often with no verbal interaction, and no conversation. An example is the reported apparitions at Our Lady of Assiut in which many people reported a bright image atop a building, accompanied by photographs of the image. The photographs at times suggest the silhouette of a statue of the Virgin Mary but the images are usually subject to varying interpretations, and critics suggest that they may just be due to various visual effects of unknown origin. However, such image-like appearances are hardly ever reported for visions of Jesus and Mary. In most cases these involve some form of reported communication.

And apparitions should be distinguished from interior locutions in which no visual contact is claimed. In some cases of reported interior locutions such as those of Father Stefano Gobbi a large amount of text is produced, but no visual contact is claimed. Interior locutions usually do not include an auditory component, but consist of inner voices. Interior locutions are generally not classified as apparitions.

Physical contact is hardly ever reported as part of Marian apparitions, unlike in cases of interaction with Jesus Christ. In rare cases a physical artifact is reported in apparitions. A well known example is the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe which is reported to have been miraculously imprinted on the cloak of Saint Juan Diego.

Eternal Father painting the Virgin of Guadalupe. Anonymous, 18th century, an example of Roman Catholic Marian art related to an apparitionAccording to the doctrine of the Catholic Church, the era of public revelation ended with the death of the last living Apostle. A Marian apparition, if deemed genuine by Church authority, is treated as private revelation that may emphasize some facet of the received public revelation for a specific purpose, but it can never add anything new to the deposit of faith. The Church will confirm an apparition as worthy of belief, but belief is never required by divine faith.[1] The Holy See has officially confirmed the apparitions at Guadalupe, Saint-Étienne-le-Laus, Paris (Rue du Bac, Miraculous Medal), La Salette, Lourdes, Fátima, Portugal, Pontmain, Beauraing, and Banneux.[2][3]

As a historical pattern, Vatican approval of apparitions seems to have followed general acceptance of a vision by well over a century in most cases. According to Father Salvatore M. Perrella of the Marianum Pontifical Institute in Rome, of the 295 reported apparitions studied by the Holy See through the centuries only 12 have been approved, the latest being the May 2008 approval of the 17th- and 18th-century apparitions of Our Lady of Laus.[4][5][6][7]

An authentic apparition is believed not to be a subjective experience, but a real and objective intervention of divine power. The purpose of such apparitions is to recall and emphasize some aspect of the Christian message. The church states that cures and other miraculous events are not the purpose of Marian apparitions, but exist primarily to validate and draw attention to the message.[8] Apparitions of Mary are held to be evidence of her continuing active presence in the life of the church, through which she "cares for the brethren of her son who still journey on earth".[9]

Not all claims of visitations are dealt with favourably by the Roman Catholic Church. For example, claimed apparitions of Our Lady, Jesus Christ and various saints at Bayside, New York have not been condoned or sanctioned in any way, nor those at the Necedah Shrine in Necedah, Wisconsin. The behavior of Ms Veronica Lueken and Mary Ann Van Hoof, who claimed these heavenly favors, was deemed not to compare favorably with the "quiet pragmatism" of St. Bernadette Soubirous — Church authorities are said to use Bernadette as a model by which to judge all who purport to have visitations. Indeed, both women seriously criticized the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy, allegedly even harshly, and Mrs. Van Hoof is said to have subsequently left Roman Catholicism for an independent local Old Catholic Church.

Possibly the best-known apparition sites are Lourdes and Fatima[10] Over sixty spontaneous healings, out of thousands reported at the Lourdes Spring, have been classified as "inexplicable" by the physicians of the Lourdes Bureau, a medical centre set up by the Church in association with local medical institutes to assess possible miracles. The Three Secrets of Fatima received a great deal of attention in the Catholic and secular press.

Do not work so hard for Christ that you have no strength to pray, for prayer requires strength.

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one."

MINUTE MEDITATION

Proclaiming the Gospel

The best gift you have to offer may not be your theological knowledge but yourself. You are your best ammunition in terms of proclaiming the gospel. People can argue with your theology; they cannot argue with your personal experience.

I'M MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!

An Open Letter to All Americans,

America is broken, badly broken! I feel I can safely say that ALL Americans are worried, wringing their hands til their knuckles turn white. The stalled negotiations behind closed doors make me nervous. I look at the staged photographs at the big table and wonder, “who among you has the financial savvy to untangle the mess in America?” I am angry, and I want to quote a line from the movie, “Network”: I am mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!

Our wonderful and new “Tea Party” has done little, other than to divide the very strong Republican party. That means another Democrat in the White House, probably Obama if he is not contested. China has bought tons of financial institutions, lands and businesses. Do you know how much America’s debt to China is? Do your research!

Have you paid attention to the number of foreign trips that have been taken by both the Obama family, and Michele and the girls alone? Why have you not stood up and shaken your finger at him and told him how angry you are at his and his family’s double-standard? We are paying for their numerous vacations; we are paying for the pensions and lifetime health insurance for our elected officials in Washington.

Why are you complacent? Why are you relying on others to manage your future, the future of your children and their children? Do you think that going to the polls and casting your vote means that your participation in your American government ends there?

Calling me “concerned” or “upset” is an understatement. Most people have a computer. Do your research!

I am particularly amused by Obama’s blaming of Reagan, Bush 1 and Bush 2 for our financial woes. Gee, wasn’t Bill Clinton in there somewhere, and for TWO TERMS? Do you think about what this President is telling us? He’s smooth, that he is. But I have come up with what I feel would be a true protest to Washington, something that will let ALL leaders know how we feel.

I am asking EVERY American to lower their American flag to half staff in mourning of the state of the American economy, judicial system, and Washington’s inability to give us the comfort we need to lay down at night and have a good sleep.

No more foreign aid that amounts to billions, bring our soldiers home from the Middle east, begin drilling the rich oil deposits in American waters, scrutinize foreign goods coming into this country, go through the Welfare system with a fine tooth comb and eliminate fraudulent malingerers, take care of Americans and their needs. Outside our borders, MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS which you have neglected for decades!  Leave Social Security and Medicare ALONE! The people who have worked their entire lives for this benefit deserve to have NO LESS than any retired Congress(man)(woman).  And each time Congress votes themselves a pay raise, Social Security should automatically receive the same!

Beginning July 30, 2011, please join me in lowering your flag to half staff, and leave it there until this country is turned around.
You can spread the word to your families and friends throughout the United States. I am only one, but I have a dream, a dream of what once was, when I was a child. Security inside our borders and out. No recessions. Honorable men and women representing our interests in Washington and in our states.

Begin by writing letters to your state representatives and your congressmen. But whatever you do, don’t “do nothing”! I've already written to my local newspaper, The Washington Post, The New York Post and The New York Times.

God bless America and make Her Whole Again!

LATE, BUT I'M HERE!

Greetings, Dear Ones! I have had the BEST day today!  It is the first day since I returned from Texas when I was here alone, and the fact that it was the most purrfect day outside helped my disposition a lot! Over the weekend, the rainy weather brought about some pings and pangs in my psyche, and I would close my eyes, picture Jesus, in the flesh, with His arms around me and I would repeat, "I love you, Jesus!"  THEN, I was telling my hubby and my bestie that another friend has been saying over and over when I saw her or talked to her, "I think you're over-medicated."  Oddly, I only said, "you think?"  Why didn't I ask why? Who knows, but it caused me to drop one dose of a medication that I take twice daily. This was a few short weeks ago.  With the rain, the pings and pangs, I found that I was mentally repeating, "I will not come apart, I will not come apart .....", which I have been known to do.  That's it! I got up and I went and took the morning dose of my medication and it pulled me right out of it.  Well, that and the love of Jesus pulled me out of it.

I've come so far.  Just a few short years ago, I might call on the Lord and cry and wail and say "God help me!"  But we all know that God helps those who help themselves.  Back to that book I was reading. Wonder why I was nearing the end of the book, had bought a new one I was anxious to get into and contemplated not finishing "The Rescue".  "Something" made me finish.  Had I not, I would not have read the passage where the friend is telling the central character, ".... I don't want your help, you go around helping others, you meet a wonderful woman, but you walk away when it gets to close.  You're always trying to FIX everybody, what you need to do is fix yourself!"  Well, it bowled me over, this message.  It was like a gift from God.

See, never take anything for granted. When you learn to see God in all things, and everything about God is POSITIVE, you find you are appreciating even the small things.  Time slows down, you're enjoying your life and all that is around you.  It's magical!

Stew on that a while and let me know what your thoughts are!

Be blessed,
Abbey

HEARLIGHT

First, I'd like to say "WELCOME" to my two newest Followers! I am so blessed that you have chosen to follow and I pray that I will always bring you spiritual nourishment and a dash of hodge-podge that will keep you coming back for more!

Today's Heartlight speaks to what has been on my mind for a few months now.  The state of the world, the seemingly endless string of natural disasters, and the Blessed Mother's urgency in her monthly messages through the visionaries has brought me into conversation regarding the End of Days many times this year, in particular.  We must turn to Jesus!  We must do our best to turn others to Jesus, too, and that means spreading the Word!

~*~

VERSE:

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

~Acts 2:17

THOUGHT:

As those living in the last days, each believer -- young and old, male and female -- must be Spirit-led and Spirit-empowered to give his or her personal testimony to the grace of God given us in Jesus Christ. As Jesus prayed for us before his death (John 17:20-23), we must be united across the gender barriers and across the age barriers and across the racial barriers if the world is to truly know that God sent his Son as Savior of the world!

PRAYER:

God of all nations, please break down the barriers that divide us and that blunt the wonderful message of  your grace. Pour out your Spirit upon us and convict us of our prejudice and selfishness, and replace it with your transcending love. Forgive us, forgive me, when my own shortsightedness and selfishness interferes with the world seeing a united Church proclaiming Jesus as Lord and Savior. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

MORE DEEP THOUGHTS & HEARTLIGHT!

We're at the lake, and I am in the final pages of a novel while sitting on the deck.  The name of it is inconsequential, but the key was, this guy, Taylor.  He's a volunteer firefighter in this small town, and he's had demons following him since he was a young boy.  His father died trying to save him fro the third story of their home when he was 9 years old.  Now his best friend and volunteer firefigther, Mitch, was the last one in the big fire at the paint plant, and Taylor couldn't save him.

Taylor had met a wonderful, single lady who has a young  boy who has learning disabilities.  He was hot to got at first, then suddenly the little boy called him "daddee", copying the other kids belonging to Mitch calling him "Daddy", and it hit a spot in Taylor that caused a chain reaction of obvious backing away from the boy's mother.

Now Mitch has died and Taylor is over at the house every day, cutting grass, fixing things, and finally the widow has a talk with him on the front lawn.  Basically, Mitch is trying to save everyone else, but the person h needs to save is himself.  He's had a dark cloud looming since he was nine years old.  His father died saving him in a housefire.

I am SO guilty of being the "crowd pleaser", trying to "save" everyone from what I think is plaguing their lifes, primarily, my children.  I now realize that they are adults and they are dealing with the curves and bumps in the road of life in their own way.  I raised them, and I haven't let go and allowed them to hurt and feel the pain of their bad decisions.  I have to stop trying to save them because I am the one who needs it the worst!

Think about that and enjoy today's Heartlght!

VERSE:

And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all
the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the
great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.

-- Judges 2:7

THOUGHT:

Each generation must have its own first-hand faith. Transforming
faith takes more than receiving a godly heritage and stories of the
past deeds of God. It requires a fresh experience of God's mighty
presence!

PRAYER:

Holy God, help me pass down my faith in you, and my love for
you, to my children and to other young believers. More than that,
Abba Father, help them experience your mighty power and great deeds
personally through ministry and sacrificial service. I pray this in
the mighty name of Jesus! Amen.

DEEP THOUGHTS

Dear Ones,

As we head to the lake for the weekend, I have a special request:

Please pray for me, and especially my son.  He needs something good to happen in his life, preferrably a dream job (doesn't everyone need one?).  Seriously, since his family was blown apart, he has struggled, and the sentence imposed has been a great trial for him.  I am consumed with worry, and worry is getting the best of me.  It is affecting my daily life.

Your prayers are so greatly appreciated, and this is not the first time I have asked.  But as Christians, that is what we do best - pray for others!

I know that God will bless you abundantly for your prayerfulness!

Love and Peace,
Abbey

THIS DAY'S . . . FRIDAY!

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But if that drop was not in the ocean, I think the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. I do not agree with the big way of doing things.

PAST POSTS: MARIAN APPARITIONS

In light of last evenings' "program" on ABC, along with the fact that I didn't find it terribly informative, at least from the standpoint of "if I wasn't Catholic", I thought I'd go back and link you to several of my past posts regarding the apparitions of the Holy Mother to the visionaries.  I hope you will spend some time re-reading .... I actually feel it is some of my better work here, and I'm glad I went back myself as it has inspired me and placed me firmly back on course! Praise God!

The Marian Apparitions captured me long after I converted to Catholicism. I feel I have wasted too many years, up until just a few short years ago, not fully embracing my Faith. Part of that Faith is my Faith in the Marian Apparitions.  I DO BELIEVE!  Our Most Holy Mother has guided us through many, many years with the words sent through her by The Son of God.  She has even begged to have more time to try and bring us to her Son, which was granted.  But we do not know how much time we have; death could happen in the next moment.  I choose to BELIEVE; there's nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Apart from being a phenomena of the Catholic faith, the apparitions to the visionaries are deeply interesting in their purest nature.

I wanted to repost a link to one of my posts regarding the apparitions for your re-read.  I have several, actually.  Click and enjoy .... er, rather, EMBRACE  Our Loving Heavenly Mother:

At the center of our faith is the Holy Rosary.  We implore our Blessed Mother to pray for us. Now, she has made many requests in return, to return to the foot of the cross, to her Son, Jesus, to the Father; to lead others to His Word, to raise our children knowing Him, in general, live a life worthy of the House that the Father has built for each of us.  I know, from experience, that the life I live now, with my faith, the Holy Trinity, the Blessed Mother, all the Saints and angels, is the most warming and loving existence I have ever known.  Please join me, and bring your family and friends, too!

I love you, all who come here,
Abbey

The Beatitudes: Eight Attitudes That Open Us to God's Saving Love

The Beatitudes: Eight Attitudes That Open Us to God's Saving Love
by Friar Jack Wintz, O.F.M.

I think most of us forget these wonderful words that God gave us for spiritual nourishment. Like a garden, if we are not nourished, we wilt and sometimes die. I don't want to die away from God's love and His care.  This is my gift, to you, today ..... be blessed!

"Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit"

"Blessed Are They Who Mourn"

"Blessed Are the Meek"

"Blessed Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst"

"Blessed Are the Merciful"

"Blessed Are the Pure of Heart"

"Blessed Are the Peacemakers"

"Blessed Are Those Who Are Persecuted"

"Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit"
Jesus does not comfort the proud, but those broken in spirit. He assures them that they are the true recipients of God's saving love. In the Old Testament, God's poor are called the anawim, the Hebrew word for the poor, humble and afflicted. Only those who are "poor in spirit" understand that salvation is a free gift from God.

"Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted."
Those who are now mourning recognize their need for God's healing and forgiveness. In Matthew's Gospel, a tax collector named Matthew is among those eating with Jesus. When Jesus is asked why he eats with tax collectors and sinners, Jesus answers, "Those who are well do not need the physician, but the sick do" (Matthew 9:12). Only those who admit their sickness or sin are open to God's saving love.

"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
For some people, the word meek may suggest weakness or spinelessness. The biblical meaning of meek, however, indicates respect and forbearance. Jesus describes himself as "meek and humble of heart," and yet he is anything but spineless. Indeed, the Jesus we know has immense inner strength.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied."
According to Jesus, they are already blessed who dedicate themselves to building a world of justice and righteousness, a world where everyone's rights are respected and all people will find a place at the table—and enjoy a fair share of the gifts of God's creation.

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."
The Peace Prayer of St. Francis repeats the same dynamic in these familiar words: "It is in pardoning that we are pardoned." And this triumph of mercy happens not only in the next life. It happens now. No sooner do our hearts imitate the mercy of God than God showers on us the gift of his own overflowing love and mercy!

"Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God."
Sometimes, after a spring rain, we come across a clear puddle of water. If we stir the puddle with a stick, it clouds up and turns muddy. When our motives and intentions are clouded, we lose our purity of heart and our ability to see God—and our neighbor as an image of God.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."
The Hebrew word shalom means peace—a state of wholeness and total health. When we wish someone peace in the biblical sense, we are wishing them this same kind of wholeness. If we go about spreading God's love as instruments of peace, we bring wholeness and reconciliation to our world—and become "children of God."

"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
As we look at this eighth beatitude—and look back at each of the preceding beatitudes—we see that Jesus is a great model for all of them.

We would each do well, I believe, to take a few moments to reread slowly this series of eight beatitudes and to contemplate Jesus, who followed them so lovingly during his life here on earth.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

I want "In My Life" by The Beatles played at my funeral.  That oughta shake things up in church!  This song just comes to mind today as I am writing friends and trying to keep up, getting back to my life here after spending 4 weeks with mom and dad.  I had a lot of rude awakenings while I was there.  My heroes are growing old, and fast.

Mom came into the kitchen in her wheelchair and directed me in making real dumplings for her famous chicken and dumplings! She also guided me through "a little more" and "just a little of this" in making her famous banana pudding.  This is a treasure for me, where it is probably of little significance to others. My mother is the best cook I've ever known.  Her stroke snatched away her entire niche in life. She is stoic, she is strong, and she laughs through it.  How could she not be a hero to me?

Dad keeps on going, yet he is starting to "hunch" a little in his shoulders - he's growing old. This stroke has made him old as it has my mother.  They will  remain in Texas and I will remain here.  I did learn on this past trip that there is no way that we could all co-habitate together.  They are happy where they are, so I have ceased all mention of them making a move.  I accept that I will hop jets whenever something happens.  They have good friends and I know they are my link and care for my folks.

My spine is injured again, probably from lifting mother, but I'll suffer through fire to care for her.  We're about to embark on a complete face lift in our home, including carpeting.  BIG JOB!  And I am so worn, but onward I will march, doing what must be done.  My best friend is coming today to finish tearing down wallpaper in the guest bath, and whatever else I may need.  She is such a gift from God, so giving and kind to me.  We will go to her house on the lake for the weekend and I will rest, sitting on the deck, on the boat or on a floating raft - it will be a time of serenity, a time where I look to the heavens and have wonderful talks with God.

The pump in our spa has quit - and it is at a time when I suddenly realized that I wanted to spend time in the spa, the jets running over my body, easing all the tension and wear on my body of the last month.  The people haven't returned my call.  Oddly, I am finding that some people don't seem to "need" the work ... they take their time and I sit and wait for them.  Life goes on ..........
