Dance Like Nobody Is Watching

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire.

The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when?

Your life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. Alfred D Souza said, "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.

This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time ... and remember that time waits for no one...
So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you've had a drink, until you've sobered up, until you die, until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy...

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.
Thought for the day :
Work like you don't need money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one's watching.

Dear Visitors,

I would like to hear what interests you most, and what you would like to read, what makes you happy, what brings you joy, what makes a difference in your day?

Please, drop me a comment and let me know what I can to improve on my blog posting.

As you know, I am a devout Catholic, BUT, that does not mean that I have to post all scripture and Catholicism.  There can be some fun, too!

I look forward to receiving your thoughts.

Be blessed,

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
~Matthew 6:25

Worries are many and they all seem to crowd in around bill time, don't they. Jesus reminded us that life is more than food or clothes. The real question is whether we can live like life is more than food and clothing. We get deceived so easily, like Esau who sold his birthright for a bowl of soup. Let's not sell out what is precious for the allure of what will most likely end in difficulty and entanglements or at the very least doesn't have eternal value.

Generous Father, banish fear and selfishness from my heart. I know you have already provided the most incredible gift of all time. Please help me pursue you and your will and not the things that choke out your presence in my life. In Jesus' name I pray.  Amen.

Lead Us to Jesus

Mary does not seek attention; she does not want followers of Christ to see her as the focal point of devotion. She is the mother who wishes to lead us to a deeper intimacy with her son. God has given her to us—in order to protect, proclaim, and love us—and she does so perfectly.

Did you notice who Obama threatened when he wasn't getting his way on raising the debt ceiling?

He threatened to not pay: Social Security Retirees, Military Retirees, Social Security disability and Federal Retirees.

He did not threaten to stop payments to illegal aliens

He did not threatened to take frivolous benefits such as Internet access away from violent inmates

He did not offer to fire some of the thousands of unnecessary federal employees that he hired He did not offer to cut down on his or his wife's frivolous gallivanting around

He did not threaten to not pay the senators and representatives or any of their staff

He did not threaten to take benefits away from welfare recipients

He did not threaten the food stamp programs

He did not threaten to not pay foreign aid

He did not threaten to cut back on anything that involves his base voters

The list could go on and on. He is in full political re-election mode! Why are we allowing this person to destroy this wonderful country with his selfishness and his lies? His type of change is killing our country. He needs to be stopped and only our votes can stop him.

Do not forget about his tactics when it's election time. Vote Obama out of the Presidency in 2012.

Message to Marija, August 25, 2011

Today, August 25, 2011, Our Lady appeared to the visionary Marija and delivered the following message for the world:

"Dear children! Today I call you to pray and fast for my intentions, because Satan wants to destroy my plan. Here I began with this parish and invited the entire world. Many have responded, but there is an enormous number of those who do not want to hear or accept my call. Therefore, you who have said ‘yes’, be strong and resolute. Thank you for having responded to my call."
Blessed Mother, Queen of Peace, it saddens me that so many will not listen and heed your messages. I will remain strong and resolute, I have said "YES" to the most high, Almighty God and Jesus Christ.  I love you, Blessed Heavenly Mother, and I will continue to remain loyal to you, to Jesus, God, The Holy Spirit, and to The Word of God - The Bible.  Amen.

The author of this piece is Faye Parrish of Bunnell, Florida.  She penned this in 2009 and emailed it to several friends, after which it appeared on numerous blogs and published as a tribute to 9/11.

President Obama:

Today I read of your administrations' plan to re-define September 11 as a National Service Day.

Sir, it's time we had a talk.

During your campaign, Americans watched as you made mockery of our tradition of standing and crossing your heart when the Pledge of Allegiance was spoken. You, out of four people on the stage, were the only one not honoring our tradition.

YES, "We noticed."

During one of your many speeches, Americans heard you say that you intended to visit all 57 states. We all know that Islam, not America has 57 states.

YES, "We noticed."

When President Bush leaned over at Ground Zero and gently placed a flower on the memorial, while you nonchalantly tossed your flower onto the pile without leaning over.

YES, "We noticed."

Every time you apologized to other countries for America 's position on an issue we have wondered why you don't share our pride in this great country... When you have heard foreign leaders berate our country and our beliefs, you have not defended us. In fact, you insulted the British Crown beyond belief.

YES, "We noticed."

When your pastor of 20 years, "God-damned America " and said that 9/11 was" America 's chickens coming home to roost" and you denied having heard recriminations of that nature, we wondered how that could be. You later disassociated yourself from that church and Pastor Wright because it was politically expedient to do so.

YES, "We noticed."

When you announced that you would transform America , we wondered why. With all her faults, America is the greatest country on earth. Sir, KEEP THIS IN MIND, "if not for America and the people who built her, you wouldn't be sitting in the White House now." Prior to your election to the highest office in this Country, you were a senator from Illinois and from what we can glean from the records available, not a very remarkable one.

YES, "We noticed."

All through your campaign and even now, you have surrounded yourself with individuals who are basically unqualified for the positions for which you appointed them. Worse than that, the majority of them are people who, like you, bear no special allegiance, respect, or affection for this country and her traditions.

YES, "We noticed."

You are 24 months into your term and every morning millions of Americans wake up to a new horror heaped on us by you. You seek to saddle working Americans with a health care/insurance reform package that, along with cap and trade, will bankrupt this nation.

YES, "We noticed."

We seek, by protesting, to let our representatives know that we are not in favor of these crippling expenditures and we are labeled "un-American", "racist", "mob". We wonder how we are supposed to let you know how frustrated we are. You have attempted to make our protests seem isolated and insignificant. Until your appointment, Americans had the right to speak out.

YES, "We noticed."

On September 11, 2001 there were no Republicans or Democrats, only Americans. And we all grieved together and helped each other in whatever way we could. The attack on 9/11 was carried out because we are Americans.

And YES, "We noticed..."

There were many of us who prayed that as a black president you could help unite this nation. In six months you have done more to destroy this nation than the attack on 9/11. You have failed us.

YES, "We noticed."

September 11 is a day of remembrance for all Americans. You propose to make 9/11 a "National Service Day". While we know that you don't share our reverence for 9/11, we pray that history will report your proposal as what it is, a disgrace.

YES, "We noticed."

You have made a mockery of our Constitution and the office that you hold. You have embarrassed and slighted us in foreign visits and policy.

YES, "We noticed."

We have noticed all these things. We will deal with you. When Americans come together again, it will be to remove you from office.

Take notice!!

Jesus’ Special Friends
by Friar Jim Van Vurst, O.F.M.
The Gospels relate many people Jesus met and talked to during his three-year ministry. Some were friends and co-workers, such as his apostles and closest disciples. There were special people whom he helped and who became his followers, such as Mary Magdalene, the first to witness the risen Jesus. But in both the Gospels of Luke and John, Martha, Mary and their brother, Lazarus, truly stand out as very special friends.

This family lived in the town of Bethany, a couple miles southeast of Jerusalem. It seems Jesus felt very comfortable and welcome in their home. In fact, during the early days of Holy Week, Jesus spent his nights with these friends. During the days, he preached in Jerusalem. And it was during this week that Mary anointed Jesus' feet and dried them with her hair—an act which upset Judas. He thought it was a waste of money, though Jesus said that it was a symbol of his upcoming death and burial. You’ll recall that it was Lazarus whom Jesus raised from the dead even after he had been in the tomb four days (John 11). And many people came to believe in Jesus after witnessing that astounding sight.

There is an incident about these two sisters that is so endearing because it describes our wounded human nature. It’s described in the Gospel of Luke. Jesus and some disciples had come from Jerusalem to stay the night at Martha and Mary’s home. Martha, being the elder sister and head of the house, is concerned with her role as hostess. After all, they will need something to eat and drink. The group sits and, lo and behold, Mary sits right at the feet of Jesus. It seems only Martha is aware of what is going on. She is left alone to take care of the guests.

Jesus starts teaching, and everyone around him is taken with his words. It seems that no one notices Martha's predicament. In a way, Martha is isolated. Finally, she can stand it no longer. She comes out and interrupts Jesus to get him to send Mary into the kitchen to help. To Martha this is a reasonable request. But, to her surprise, Jesus gently chides her: “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her” (Luke 10:41).

From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
~John 6:66
This verse haunts me. Not just because of the three numbers in the reference, but because it is a great reminder that many folks simply gave up following Jesus when things became hard to understand. When he shattered their preconceived notions of religious things, when he confronted them about their motives, they went away. What will I do when things get difficult in my discipleship and I can't figure out all the answers to what is going on? I hope, I pray, I trust that I will follow until the way and the will of the Lord become more clear!

Awesome God, I confess openly that I cannot begin to understand all the complexities of your will and the way you work in our world. But Father, when I'm confused, please bring into my life people who will help me hang on to my faith until the confusion passes. And today, dear Father, please use me to help bless someone who is struggling with his or her faith. In Jesus' name I ask it. Amen.

If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,

If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without alcohol,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

Fall into Jesus

Most of us make poor judgments at times. But, while we might be embarrassed to think that Jesus was there with us when we were doing our worst, at the same time it might reassure us that he will be there when we need him the most.

Calling Things That Are Not As Though They Were
Lesson 11 from Romans: Lessons In Renewing Your Mind
By Eric Elder
The Ranch

As we're looking at ways to renew your mind from the book of Romans, I'd like to draw your attention to one more verse from Romans chapter 4 before moving on to chapter 5. There's a phrase in there that is not only extremely quotable and memorable, but it can also be a powerful force for defining your future, if you'll take it to heart.

In talking about God, Paul described Him as:

"...the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were” (Romans 4:17b).

I love that phrase: the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.

If you can believe that God can give life to the dead, which He has proven over and over, and that He can call things into existence that have never existed before, which He has also proven over and over, then you can see God do miracles in your own life that will outshine anything you've ever seen before.

Some people bristle at the phrase "name it and claim it,” referring to the idea that we can have anything we want if we'll just speak it forth, believe in it hard enough, and start walking in that direction. While there's incredible power in positive thinking, and it's certainly much better than negative thinking, it can lead to problems if what we're naming isn't in line with what God wants us to claim. Rather than being a blessing to us, what we're wanting could actually harm us, as every parent knows who has given in to a poorly thought-out request by their child.

But when you get your thinking in line with God's, and ask for things that He would love to give you, then it becomes a different story. When God names it, He wants us to claim it! When God puts a desire in your heart, He wants you to speak it forth, to believe in it fully, and to start walking in that direction.

This is exactly what God commended Abraham for. Abraham was sad and dejected that he had no heirs to whom he could pass on all the blessings he had received in life. He expressed this sadness to God, and God spoke to Abraham, giving him a promise that seemed unbelievable. God changed Abraham's name from Abram—which means "exalted father”—to Abraham, which means "father of many,” saying:

"You will be the father of many nations” (Genesis 17:5).

Abraham's first response was to fall down and laugh! The Bible says:

"Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, 'Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?'” (Genesis 17:17).

But when God assured Abraham that what He had spoken He would bring to pass, Abraham believed God. He acted on that belief, circumcising himself and his whole family, and God honored him for his faith and obedience.

Within a year of Abraham's conversation with God, Abraham and Sarah had their promised son. They named him Isaac—which means "laughter”—as God had told them to do, and so began the passing on of Abraham's inheritance from one generation to the next until this very day.

Even though Abraham's body was as good as dead, in terms of its ability to bring forth life, and his wife had been barren for ninety years, God proved to them both that He is a God "who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.”
God has been doing the same throughout eternity.

He spoke the world into existence with a word. He called Gideon a "mighty warrior” when Gideon saw himself as the least in his family and the weakest family in his tribe. He called David a "king” and a "man after My own heart” even though David was just a shepherd boy at the time and was described by his brother as having a wicked heart.

The Bible is full of stories of God giving life to the dead and calling things that are not as though they were, with the story of Jesus's death and resurrection being chief among them! But the stories of God calling things that are not as though they were didn't end in biblical days. They still continue today!

Let me tell you just one.

About ten years ago I was invited to attend a Billy Graham conference on evangelism in Amsterdam. My passport was about to expire, so I had to fill out an application for a new one. On the application, it asked for my "occupation.” I wasn't sure exactly what to put in the blank, as the ministry I do on the Internet doesn't fit into a neatly defined category.

Yet at the time I was feeling more and more that one of God's callings on my life was to be an author. I loved writing and had written extensively for my own website, filling up hundreds of electronic pages with digital ink. Yet I never considered myself an author, since the only book I had published was a devotional booklet I had written the year before, and photocopied at home for people who asked for it.

That hardly seemed to qualify my as an author, yet I felt that's what God was calling me to be. So as a statement of faith in what God wanted me to be, I filled in the "occupation” blank with just one word: "Author.”

When I arrived overseas at the airport, the customs official took a look at my passport, then took a look at me. He said, "It says here you're an author. What kind of books do you write?”
I thought about my little devotional booklet and said, "Devotional books to encourage people in their faith.”

He asked where I was headed, and I told him about the Billy Graham conference. He said, "With a last name like 'Elder' that fits.” He smiled, stamped my passport, and waved me on through.

Something in my heart "fit,” too. I realized that I wasn't stretching the truth when I said I was an author. I was believing the truth. From that moment on, it changed both my outlook and my expectations for the future.

Since then, I've written and published over a dozen books. My weekly messages, like this one that you're reading right now, are being sent by email to over 35,000 subscribers around the world. I'm not sure what the official qualifications would be for someone to be declared an "author.” But for me, I believe I became an author the moment I believed it myself, came into alignment with God's plan for my life in that area, and started walking in obedience to that calling.

God has a way of seeing our potential before we do and then speaking it into existence. How? Because God can see an oak tree in an acorn.

And if you're willing to open your eyes to see things as God sees them, you'll start seeing oak trees in acorns, too. You'll be able to see the potential in yourself and in the lives of others that you may have never seen before.

I could tell you story after story of people who are alive today whose lives and situations have been changed dramatically because they put their faith in Christ. I could tell you about marriages that have been dead for years and ended in divorce, but which God has brought back to life when both people put their faith in Christ. I could tell you about couples who have been declared infertile by doctors, but whom God has said would bear a child within a year—like Abraham and Sarah—and have! I could tell you about people involved in lifestyles that could literally kill them, lifestyles which some people would say are impossible to change, but which God has changed and given them new lives instead,

"For nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37).

When you get in line with God's plans for your life, nothing will be impossible for you, either.
If God has spoken to you about your future, believe Him. Put your faith into action and start walking in the direction He's told you to walk. If you've not sure what God has called you to do, keep seeking Him for His wisdom. Read the Bible. Pray. Ask others what they think about your future. Then when God gives you the next step to take, take it!

Don't be discouraged if what God says about your future doesn't line up with your present. Remember that God sees an oak tree in an acorn.

Remember that God called Abraham "a father of many nations” before he and Sarah had even conceived their first child together. Remember that God called Gideon a "mighty warrior” back when Gideon felt like he was the weakest of the weak. Remember that God called David "a man after My own heart” even when others were saying otherwise.

Put your trust in God, and remember who He is. He is:

"...the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.”

Will you pray with me?

Father, thank You for reminding us today of who You are and what You can do. Give us the faith we need to see Your promises come to pass in our lives. Fill us with Your wisdom, Your plans, Your purposes, and Your ways, so that we can take hold of them by faith, and begin walking in obedience to Your calling on our lives, starting even today. In Jesus' name, Amen.

I just can't help but post this ..... opnions, anyone???

Every once in a while, a celebrity feud comes along that makes past celebrity feuds pale in comparison. The Paula Deen-Anthony Bourdain food fight (har har) is one instance of a famous-on-famous smackdown that is so nasty and unexpected and awesome, it will most certainly be a starred footnote within the enemies' respective Wikipedia pages until the end of time. Or something.

Bourdain, acerbic host of The Travel Channel's "No Reservations," launched the first grenade at the delightful Deen, who is perhaps the best-liked chef on TV. Sniped Bourdain to TV Guide: "(She is) the worst, most dangerous person to America. She revels in unholy connections with evil corporations, and she's proud of the fact that her food is f---ing bad for you. I would think twice before telling an already obese nation that it is OK to eat food that is killing us. Plus, her food sucks."

Fired up, Bourdain also criticized Food Network personalities Rachael Ray ("Does she even cook anymore?), Sandra Lee ("I hate her works on this planet") and Guy Fieri ("I look at Guy and I just think, 'Jesus, I'm glad that's not me.'")

Deen's not going down without a fight. The mayonnaise-loving, down-home cooking Georgia peach responded with an angry statement to Page Six, telling the column: "Anthony Bourdain needs to get a life. You don't have to like my food, or Rachael's, Sandra's and Guy's. But it's another thing to attack our character. I wake up every morning happy for where I am in life. It's not all about the cooking, but the fact that I can contribute using my influence to help people all over the country. In the last two years, my partners and I have fed more than 10 million hungry people by bringing meat to food banks."

She adds, "I have no idea what Anthony has done to contribute besides being irritable."

This morning, Deen appeared on "Fox and Friends" to defend herself, saying she'd never met Bourdain and was shocked by his vicious commentary. "Listen, come to my house, I'll cook you a meal and if you still feel that way about me, so be it," she said.

As much as we love Bourdain -- we could watch his show "No Reservations" on continuous loop (it's smart, global, irreverent, delicious!) -- we're gonna have to side with Deen on this one. Bourdain raises tough, provocative questions: is Paula Deen contributing to America's obesity epidemic? Should we hold her accountable, given her tremendous influence among those who worship her mouthwatering recipes of fatty, fried foods? (Michelle Obama, who's campaigning hard to reverse childhood obesity, would likely that welcome such a conversation.)

But, as always, Bourdain's delivery was unnecessarily harsh and mean, overshadowing his legitimate, thought-provoking concerns about a serious issue. Instead he comes off like a self-satisfied jerk.
Humbled but unapologetic, Bourdain tweets: "Resolved: Next time I'm asked (for the millionth time) who the worst cooks on Food Network are, I'll just shut up. Who cares?"

Apparently, lots of people do -- when Paula Deen's in the line of fire

From OMG!

We recently had the most wonderful pleasure to see James Taylor downtown at a very old theater, The Alabama Theatre.  This is a very exquisite site in and of itself, still bearing the memorable facade interior of many years gone by.   It is also a very intimate please to see an artist of the caliber of James Taylor.  I am still in awe .... I love this man.  His voice has not changed, he's comfortable bantering with his audience between songs, and has lots of anecdotes to go along with particular pieces he's performing.  It was one of those that I can check off my Bucket List.  He is a legend, and I shared he shared his aura with me! ;)  The following photographs were taken by me that magical evening!

This Day's Thought

The God of the infinite is the God of the infinitesimal.
Blaise Pascal

This Day's Verse
"Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old. But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are his.”
Job 12:12-13The New Living Translation

This Day's Smile
Christ desires nothing more of us than that we speak of him.
Martin Luther

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

~Acts 3:19

I'm not sure what we fear about repentance (turning our hearts and lives to God). God will not only receive us; he will also redeem us and remake us. But that repentance is often so hard for us to do. We get stuck in old patterns of destructive and addictive behavior. We believe Satan's deceptive lies. We use self-deprecating thoughts to defeat the Spirit's work in ourselves. So why not come clean and confess our sins and truly turn our lives over to God? If we will, we will find something truly refreshing!

Holy and righteous Father, I am not sure why I so doggedly hold on to some of my "pet" sins. Part of me wants to break free of these stumbling blocks, but part of me doesn't. I need your help in turning myself fully over to you. Please send your healing, cleansing, and refreshing power through the Holy Spirit to help me as I commit in my heart to fully and completely turn my life over to you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

I have, for a long while now, been searching for a ministry within our church where I could feel that I was contributing something worthwhile, a sort of giving back or paying it forward, as you will.  Well, I've prayed a lot, too over the last couple of years.

Sister Madeleine, our resident nun, called me and asked me to come to a class for Extaordinary Ministers to the Sick.  I KNOW that God has called me and I have answered a resounding YES!

We had the first of three classes last night, and I am evermore excited to join this ministry.  This is an area (visiting the infirmed or sick who cannot attend Mass and received the Host) where I feel I can really do well and help others.  I expect it will be difficult at times, especially for the terminally ill, but I will draw on that strength deep down in my soul that only God can give me.

I may not be given an assignment right away, but I can go with other EM's who have been doing this for a while and be a part of their visits, which will be the best way to learn.

I thank God for leading me to this Ministry.  I feel it is a vital and important ministry, and I even had an EM who visited me every week and brought me communion when I was very ill in 2005.

Yes, this feels right and I am already feeling the joy of giving back.  Please pray for me as I enter into this ministry.

Wishing you all Peace, Love, Joy and Blessings,
