Maxine

Everyone concentrates on the problems we're having in this country lately: illegal immigration, hurricane recovery, alligators attacking people in Florida ... Not me. I concentrate on solutions for the problems. It's a win-win situation.

+ Dig a moat the length of the Mexican border.
+ Send the dirt to New Orleans to raise the level of the levies.
+ Put the Florida alligators in the moat along the Mexican border.

Any other problems you would like for me to solve today ? Yes! Think about this one:

1. Cows
2. The Constitution
3. The Ten Commandments

C O W S Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

T H E C O N S T I T U T I O N They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq .... Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.

T H E 1 0 C O M M A N D M E N T S The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal,' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians ... It creates a hostile work environment.

Lord, are you talking to me? Yes, I believe He is . . .

VERSE: The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating foolshall fall.

~ Proverbs 10:8

THOUGHT: It's easy to give our opinion. It's kinda fun to "put in our two cents worth." It's easy to "talk the talk." Unfortunately, however, our talk can often be a way to keep us insulated from the obedience God desires. No matter our age or experience, if we are wise, we will accept the righteous commands of God!

PRAYER: O Lord God, who searches hearts and minds, please give me an inquiring heart that thirsts after pleasing and obeying you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Powerful Woman's Motto

Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the floor in the morning, Satan shudders & says ...

'Oh shit .... she's awake!!!'

This Day's . . .

Why are you so anxious to see God with your eyes closed? See him with your eyes open- in the form of the poor, the starved, the illiterate and the afflicted.

Daily Wisdom from Heartlight

Oh, this is a good one!!

Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

~ Proverbs 12:22, King James Version

HEAVEN or HELL?

While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance. "Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the man."Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the senator."I'm sorry, but we have our rules." And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes.

They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises. The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.

"Now it's time to visit heaven."

So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. "I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil looks at him, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning...... Today you voted."

With the National election on the horizon, this comes at a very appropriate time.

VERSE:

Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? For to thee doth it appertain: for as much as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.

~ Jeremiah 10:7

THOUGHT:

Presidents, kings, and rulers have a host of "wise" and diplomatic counselors. Many also surround themselves with people of power and wealth. There is, however, only One King of the Nations! There is only One who will truly and ultimately rule over all peoples of the earth. He is beyond compare and has no worthy rival. All creatures, great and small, will one day revere him and honor his holy name. Let’s make sure we do it today!

PRAYER:

You are worthy, my God and Father, of all glory and power. You have no rival -- either in reality or in my heart. Thank you for blessing me with your grace. Why you should care for me when you have such power and majesty I’m not completely sure, but I thank you and praise you. I thank you for adopting me into your royal family by your grace. I praise you for the great and gracious purity and righteousness that you have poured out on me. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

The Catholic Vote

This is an extremely powerful statement. It moved me to chills and to tears. Embrace it.

This Day's . . .

It is not what men eat, but what they digest that makes them strong; not what we gain, but what we save that makes us rich;
not what we read, but what we remember that makes us learned;
not what we preach or pray, but what we practice and believe that makes us Christians.

~ Frances Bacon

Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

~ Philippians 4:1, The King James Version

When a young minister was still single, he preached a sermon he entitled "Rules for Raising Children." After he got married and had children of his own, he changed the title of the sermon to "Suggestions for Raising Children." When his children got to be teen-agers, he stopped preaching on that subject altogether.

VERSE:

Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

~ Leviticus 10:3

THOUGHT:

God's holiness is unapproachable except through the gift of his grace. When we disregard God’s holiness, we profane what is precious and sacred. God will be known and shown as holy; if not by his people, then by his action. Let's take our worship of God seriously, honoring him with our reverence and awe (Hebrews12:28-29). But, let's not confine worship to only what we do in church. Let's realize that all of our life is worship (Romans12:1-2) and live out our lives with a commitment to be holy in all we do (1 Peter 1:15-16) – in both the worship with our lips and the worship with our lives (Hebrews 13:15-16).

PRAYER:

Almighty and Most High God, holy and perfect in righteousness, forgive me for my sins. Cleanse me and make me holy by the transforming and sanctifying power of your Holy Spirit. May my life be lived as a holy sacrifice to you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Stewardship is more than setting up soup kitchens and overnight shelters. It is good and right that we reach into the river of despair and rescue people who are drowning. But it is time to move upstream and see who's throwing them in.

~ Edmond Browning

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

~ Psalm 42:5-8, The King James Version

Two hikers who wake up from their campsite see a grizzly bear approaching. One camper dives into his knapsack and pulls out a pair of sneakers. As he takes off his boots to put on the sneakers, his companion says, "You know you can't outrun a grizzly." His companion replies, "I know. I just have to outrun you."

Abbey's Listening To . . .

As I'm sure you know, this was Christina Aguilera's first biggie on the market. I look at the cover photo and it's uniquely definitive of where she was then and where she is now. Christina has come a very long way. In "Stripped" she literally stripped her emotions raw, and in some cases, you can feel them bleed. I believe she dealt with every demon on every level in this very impressive cd. I adore her powerful voice. She has range, rhythm and blues, throat, vibrato, everything you could ask for, in perfect pitch, I must add, and they all interchange in the most perfect places in each tune. I believe Christina to be one of the best female singer/songwriters .of our time. If you've never listened to "Stripped", I highly recommend it. The songs are stories from her heart, the arrangements are very specific and frame her beautifully, and the backup singers never overpower her. This is HER story. And it provokes, more than anything, INSPIRATION. Inspiration to overcome any adversity that any of you may be facing. It's an in-your-face, yet gentle and motherly lesson that we all could learn from. Bravo Christina. This one will survive the test of time.

The Mommy Club ("TMC")

I have met several ladies on a local forum, and we all decided to meet for dinner at a local restaurant this past Wednesday evening. There were nine of us in all, with a couple who were unable to come due to sick children, etc. The thing about this little "club" is that two or three of the ladies knew one or two of the others, but most of us had been chatting on this forum for a year and have never met. Nobody looks like you think they will! I had written something about a tattoo and I was standing outside waiting due to my early arrival, when a girl walked up and stood there smiling. I turned around to look at the other people waiting, which I didn't know until later, gave her a peak at my tattoo, so she asked me "are you Abbey?"

The thing that impressed me so much was the warmth I felt from everyone. Our ages run from late twenties to mid-fifties. The personalities are ALL unique and special. But the common bond among all of us was the humor. I have not laughed so much in I don't know when. I'm happy that I took a giant leap forward and met all of these ladies. I have made a couple of friends that I can feel already will be very close ones. I am surprised that the owner didn't ask us to leave. And I found out the next day that 4 of them were there until they were stacking chairs on the tables, and then they went out to leave and ended up talking another 45 minutes!

We had Moms with tots, Moms with adolescents, Moms with grown children, and a Mom with grandchildren (Moi) and another that has one on the way. We had a Mom whose son is a Marine and was shipped overseas about six weeks ago. She proudly showed his photograph in uniform and he looked so young, but he is such a very brave young man and I wished him Godspeed. The other Mom showed her son in uniform and he's handsome as well (there's something about a man in uniform!). He is just about out of boot camp, has a baby on the way and who knows where he will end up be shipped. God bless the men and women in uniform, and I pray that God will keep these two young men safe with his waring angels surrounding them with every step they take.

Everyone is a working lady, and I mean an office job, not the oldest profession known to man! LOL! And I reflect on those young ones with small children, how hard it was to make arrangements just so they could come and have dinner and meet, and I wish I were back there again because I miss having my kids at home and depending on me, being friend and mother, and doing everything together like we used to. Those days are gone for me, but I can look at these friends and simply smile.

There was a lot of moving around and trading places - every time a couple of us went to the Ladies room, our chairs would be occupied by someone else and we'd just take their last seat. That was great because we all got to have some time talking to each one and getting to know one another. We've promised to do it at least once a month, and I believe we will. These are some serious ladies who are intent on keeping the rousing fun and laughter going. I am so glad and thank God that I met this group of new friends. Everything happens for a reason, and the reason for this was an awesome one that I feel will last a very, very long time.

VERSE:

The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined. ~ Psalm 10:2

THOUGHT:

God absolutely hates violence, intimidation, or any means used for the powerful to control, manipulate, or hound those who are weaker. He loathes wickedness that is based upon the strong and the mighty preying on the weak and powerless. We should, by our actions and resources, demonstrate both to the weak and the powerless that there is a God of love.

PRAYER:

Give me a heart, O God, that disdains the abuse of power and the misuse of wealth. Thank you, dear God, for sending Jesus to save me when I was powerless to bring about my own salvation (Romans5:5-11). Please give me a heart like Jesus when I see others being taken advantage of. In the name of my Savior, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

VERSE:

Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed; To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

~ Isaiah 10:1-2

THOUGHT:

God wants us to be a generous and concerned people. We are not to be concerned about our "stuff" but the work of God and the needs of others, especially those who are powerless and can't defend themselves.

PRAYER:

O Father of the fatherless, please increase my compassion and commitment to work for those who are forgotten, abused, disenfranchised, and pushed aside. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
